Interesting – clearly need to move wherever you are.
I have lived and worked (at quite a senior level) in central London and for a global agency for several years and 60K for a junior developer? That is nearly double what most agencies I know of pay. I appreciate the 90K salaries exist but only in rare director level roles. Most management employees I am aware of range from 40K up to absolute max 70K.
$9k is about right for a junior for a months work for someone in the uk If I was to get a job in the UK full time I would be looking at $150k+ which is a lot but it’s peanuts over here.
Sorry just to be clear you are suggesting that a junior developer in the UK should be on $9K/£5K a month and other developers on $150K/£91K a year?
A buyer might have their own CMS they want to develop it in. Quite often many PSD designers can’t code it so buyers have to wait for someone else to partner with them and it is in their interests just to buy the PSD and do it themselves.
If it is sales you are after go with HTML or WP
Just to be clear i do think most files here are undervalued and recent increases in pricing are for the best.
I don’t know about the legal aspects or necessarily the % of different buyer behaviour, there is one very straight forward reason behind envato setting prices (other than price wars and different author circumstances) and that is ‘control’.
I do NOT mean that in a negative way – it’s just simple business logic. They have spent years building up the biggest and best marketplace. It is their business and their marketplace.
They have every right to, and in the interests of envato’s (and the benefit to authors on here) continued success must be able to control how it operates and keep track of the finances. This is all something that would be v complicated under self pricing. (I am aware CM etc. do it but this is a much bigger and different environment).
No matter what flaws envato may have and how much some authors complain they continue to sell here, with v few exceptions. Why? Because they are the biggest and the best and fixed pricing helps achieve this whilst keeping everything fair to both envato, buyers and authors.
Author says they ‘have plans about’ making a WP version…
My advice is wait it out until they do then it will be around $50. There is bound to be someone on here who will offer to do it cheap like a few hundred $ BUT in general these are not people you want making your site and to be done properly by a decent developer you will be talking several thousand $ easily.
