plus it’s like in themes and web templates you have your own design and a lot of other unique elements and the javascript file (like a slider for instance) is only a component or feature of the site whereas in a WP plugin the entire script is used as a basis of building the plugin where the client does nothing new but create a plugin interface for my work .. i don’t think it should be allowed .. unless of course the client makes significant changes or includes my script as a component in a bigger project/plugin ..

I have a buyer who wishes to create a WordPress plugin out of one of my JavaScript files. On the “Extended License Examples” page it says:

“JavaScript component to be used in a template which is then sold (including on CodeCanyon or ActiveDen).”

I’m a bit confused whether it’s allowed or not because I don’t think a WP plugin classifies as a “template”. Plus, another problem is that I have been working on the very same plugin for quite some time now and would like to have my on version of the WP plugin online soon.

Can you also tell us what happens if someone fails to follow these rules? In what instances is the user directly banned, and in what instances are items removed/deleted/hidden etc.? or what exactly happens to the items and the author once they’re found in breach of these rules?

hmm.. same question here, is there any changes on house rule and any actions we can expect after March12 from Envato?

any item that beaks the new rules will be soft disabled, that’s what I understood

that’s what i would hope they would do .. below is the only relevant bit i could find in their post:

”...We may also disable author accounts for alleged violations of other intellectual property rights, or where we consider an author to have repeatedly violated our Content Policy or Membership Terms.”

i think the one month deadline isn’t good .. especially for authors with a lot of items for sale .. the deadline should be pushed to around april or may ..

@doru .. just because everyone does something doesn’t make it right .. and yes no one put a gun to my head and made me be an author here .. i’m here because i can earn money doing something i love (the very principle envato was built on) .. the community aspect of the marketplace is great and overall envato is doing a good job managing things .. and just because one clause is an itch, doesn’t mean i’ll leave .. there’s an educated way of dealing with such things which is to discuss matters as such in an open forum (which i’m doing) and hope that envato listens (as it has in the past) .. and yes, i haven’t been banned, nor have i done anything that would get me banned .. i just speak for everyone that IF someone does get banned (which can be me, you or anyone for that matter for whatever reason) we would love to hear why such a thing happened .. because sometimes (according to the terms and conditions) you may not even get a reason or even a chance to explain your side of things .. which i find bothersome considering how hard every author works here and to lose everything like that is not justified without a reason .. all i ask for is a minor amendment in the terms and conditions that if such a thing happens, authors get a reason .. and i’m sure majority of the authors would agree with me ..

@doru .. would you be okay with being thrown out of the marketplace one day without knowing why? the least i expect envato to do is to give us an explanation in every instance as to why they moved towards banning us, terminating our account etc. because we’re all working really hard here to make an honest earning.

as dignotion said, envato has been real good in listening to its users and it is definitely a “lawyer’s lingo” .. i just expect envato to make it more “author-friendly” or at least discuss with us authors why they feel they would need to ban some users without telling them the reason ..
