First, themeforest will do nothing against piracy, so don’t expect anything. Also, those guys who sent you this email are just trying to make money from you. Once your file is uploaded on such sites, its almost impossible to get it removed, so in that case you will lose your money also. And finally number of times your file is downloaded illegally does not mean lost of your sales. Most of the people just downloaded it cos it was available to download, if they would have to pay, they won’t.
Ok it makes sense. THanks
I’m not concerned about people that pirate my themes for free and you shouldn’t be either. It’s impossible to get rid of piracy.
The people that want to actually buy your theme would come here anyway, plus they would get bonuses such as support and updates. The people that want it for free, are going to download it for free. You can’t stop them.
Thanks for your response.
This morning when I woke up I received an email from PiracyGuard.net and this is what it said:
Greetings, I am a Consultant working for PiracyGuard.net, a firm that assists digital product owners to fight piracy. It has come to our knowledge that there are pirated links of your theme ‘enFORCE’. So far, your theme has been downloaded 44 times illegally. The price of your theme is $15, which translates to $660 in lost sales that cannot be recovered.
We can help you to remove these links so your sales can go up again. Remember, you are losing potential revenue as long as these pirated links are active. If you would like to see a sample of these pirated links or would like additional information, please reply and I will be happy to coordinate with you. Cheers!
Have anyone else been in a similar situation. Is these guys real. I thought ThemeForest had there own sort of police doing this job. Should I contact them?
Any guidance will be appreciated as I am really concerned about losing sales
Surprisingly not a lot of people are interested in this concept. Well I think only me and samuelbrooks seems to be interested in this. I hope to see more support for this kinda app.
I see your fear, but when you want to do some serious, pixel perfect coding, you will need .psd files. If were PSD previews watermarked, I’m almost 100% that your sales wouldn’t be any higher. Look the other way – someone who wants to buy your template is going to buy it and somebody who wants to rip it, is going to rip even though it’s watermarked.
You have point proteusnet. Thanks a lot.
Have anyone tried submitting their themeforest themes on Creattica to drive some traffic to their profiles.
I just realized that my PSD themes are not watermarked. Then I checked few other PSDs which are not watermarked as well. From what I remember PSD Previews were use to be watermarked as why would any one buy a PSD if they can just download most of the full size jpgs from themeforest.
I might be wrong, so please let me know if I am missing something. I know we can’t do our own watermark but envato use to generate watermarks automatically.
