Hey, I’m using arrays for the first time :p

I know you can do something like this:

But I’ve no idea how to get that information out of the array separately.

For example, what code would I use to trace the second items total?

Everything I’ve tried so far just outputs it all as a string.

Cheers :D

Hi, I’ve posted here about this project before but decided to give it a go myself. Unfortunately, it turns out I really don’t know XML …

The core of the site is actually very simple. It’s a portfolio of work. There are about 10 directors and 10 photographers. Each has about 4 – 10 items of work. There are also a bunch of random items, ‘stuff’.

On the homepage there are two sliding rows of randomly selected pieces of work with a few stuff items as well.

There are also 3 other pages with a grid of thumbnails. One shows all the photographs, one for the video and one for the stuff.

Clicking an item opens it up in a lightbox style viewer. Underneath the item there are thumbnails for the other pieces of work by that director/photographer and a list of all the other directors/photographers.

I can supply all the work I have so far, I’m sure you’ll want to pull it apart but you will have all the assets.

I have a limit of £750 – £800

And here is the stinger! It needs doing by Monday…

I have been a complete tool leaving it this late but if anyone can help I would be so grateful.

If you wanted to sell the core functionality on the flashden afterwards that will be absolutely fine and I have no problems with you using files from flashden in the project.

Some requirements though: As mentioned, the deadline is Monday. You must speak english Preferably from the UK Be able to keep me updated as much as possible.

If you’re from the UK, please give me a ring: 07525 939 770 Outside the UK, call me if you want, but I realise it might cost a bit. Otherwise, email me: mac dot tastic at gmail dot com

Please, only serious offers. Cheers.

Hi, I was wondering if someone knew whether it was possible to play a WMA file using a flash player.

I’m almost positive that it cannot, but I need a definitive answer so that I don’t make a tit of myself.

Cheers

Will

Hi Flashden people,

I need a quote from someone here for a bit of work that is going to happen, we’re just not sure whether we need to outsource it yet or not. It depends on our workload and if another project comes off or not. It’s looking pretty likely though!

Anyway, a quick brief (the ‘quick’ is a lie):

It’s a gallery website catering for video and for images.

There will be about 35 videos and about 60 high resolution images. About 100 potential items.

The initial screen will be a mixture of both images and video but only about 45 – 50 items out of the total. Ideally this screen will be automatically generated but we do want it in a slightly random fashion, as if they had just been pinned on a wall. Different sizes and angles for example. If it can be automatically generated a button to reshuffle would be great!

On the right hand side of this screen we need an arrow to scroll the entire wall to the right where a second version of the wall will display only video content. On the left of the screen another arrow to slide everything to the left to show only image content. These walls will have different backgrounds.

Clicking on an item will open it in a lightbox style media viewer.

The media viewer will show the item with it’s title and the photographers/directors name. Underneath will be links to all other work from that photographer/director (up to 7 more pieces). Also underneath will be a list of other photographers/directors in a scrolling list similar in functionality to this one.

At the bottom of the screen we also need a quick navigation bar which is hidden by default. Clicking on the open button will show three items; directors, photographers and contact. Clicking on either directors or photographers will display a simple list of all the directors/photographers. Clicking on one of them will open the media viewer with one piece of their work and as before show their other work below.

Also in the media viewer we will need a link to show all other video/image content. These links will take you to the left or right walls mentioned earlier.

Clicking on contact in the quick navigation bar will show contact details and a contact form.

We would like this building using XML and AS 3 .0

Links and images will all need roll-over effects.

We will supply all the design elements and examples of roll-over effects and any other animated elements.

I would request that you are UK based and used to working to a deadline.

If you are interested please could you email me: will [] engageinteractive [] co [] uk If you could give us a few examples of work you have done (from flashden is fine), some timescales and a rough price.

Please just be sure that you can do the work. We do not want to be in a situation where half of it is done and then you cannot go any further.

I can supply design work if it would help you make a quote and timescales, however I would like to see some examples of your work before sending them over if that’s ok.

Cheers

Will

(sorry for the epic length :p )

Hey flashden people!

I have a bit of work come my way which I can’t quite handle on my lonesome. It’s a very simple job, just a couple of forms in flash. A contact and quote form. (In flash, but using PHP (I don’t really know how it works))

The job needs to be done by this Thursday. Sorry that it’s a bit of a rush.

I will be designing and building everything so all you need to do is get the forms working. Both just sending to an email address. I will send all the files that you will need.

Leave a message and your email here if your interested and I’ll get back to you.

I’ve got £80 set aside for this, I hope that’s ok.

Cheers

Will

I don’t know if this applies to your situation but I’ve had to optimise in the past and it’s generally helped me out:

Radial gradients: They suck CPU power. Best bet is to export the offending MC as a PNG and then replace it with that. Same goes for alpha transparency.

Animated text: Lots of text takes it’s toll. Either convert it to an image or break it all apart.

Filters: Any filters take a serious toll on the CPU . Consider setting them all to low, or once again, exporting the movieclip as an image. If you have lots of filters I suggest this is the first thing you try. I once struggled for 2 weeks trying to figure out why a game was running so slow. Turned out that it was a stupid drop shadow on one solitary animated movieclip.

If you have any completely static backgrounds you can also cache the movieclip as bitmap. I’ve not noticed any performance increase using this before, but some people have. Worth a try.

Hi, I need some help pretty sharpish! Any kindly actionscript guru’s out there willing to lend a hand? MSN is probably the easiest method for me.

I might as well put down my problem just in case it’s really simple:

I need to set the RGB of a movieclip that is being put on the stage with attachMovie

this.attachMovie("paintDrip", "drip", dripDepth, {_x:mouseX, _y:mouseY, setRGB:_root.paintColor});

That’s the line I’m using… It doesn’t work obviously, but it might help you get what I’m trying to do.

Thanks for any help
