Hey buddy, try using cookies in the frontend, the setting gets stored in the browser.

Maybe this will help: http://plugins.jquery.com/project/cookie

Cheers

That should so the trick, but there are some new rules about cookies and I decided to stay out of them. Just to make clear: I solved my issue with session variables, but thanks for all the inputs on this :D

Aaah from the front end? JavaScript I guess then!

The problem was that I needed to keep the variable value across different pages and I think you can’t do this with Javascript (client side). Let me know if it’r possible anyway ;)

Hi, I think this only applies to the control panel. I want this to be on the website/frontend. Something like a session variable…

If it’s a custom field, add your metaboxes to the dashboard. Retrieve the data eg. for querying posts with meta_query, or if you only need a variable, like this:

<?php $var = get_post_meta($post?>ID, 'your_option_key', true); ?> And if you have absolutely no idea what I just said, search for the terms I used: add_meta_box, meta_query and get_post_meta.

This is not what I needed. I wanted to keep a layout type that each website visitor can choose anytime he’s viewing different pages. Anyway I just managed to implement this using PHP session variables.
Thanks everybody for all your inputs!

Hello everyone,
Google hasn’t been able to help me so I hope some of you might. I need to save a variable with a setting that keeps a setting user has selected (large layout or grid layout).
How can I pass this variable across all pages?
Thanks :nerdy:

@ Chuckanucka – the comparasion to music industry was not in terms of sales/money involved (obvious I thought). What I mean is that with such a vast number of users/buyers on Flashden it’s impossible to stop it. It’s like a virus that keeps growing.

Currently 110.819 users and 6.205 files. Impossible to stop this. Look at what happenned to the music industry…
SOLUTION : make great files and keep our customers satisified. This way, if they are ” the good guys” they will feel that our job should be rewarded and will not give our files.
Make love not war!!! :D
