Or just use one of the tween libraries. Here using Tweener with just 1 line:

Tweener.addTween(mcName,{_color:uint("0x" + xml.mcColor)});

Also using this method the buyer doesn’t have to enter the “0x” part in the xml, which makes things more simple.

Right now it seems to be a fight between the Motorola Xoom and the IPad. Well In terms of sales there is no question, but then again the Xoom is only being released now.

Samsumg have a new Galaxy Tab on the way which is 10inch and will try to join the fight…

But what will be the state of things after the iPad 2 is revealed tomorrow!?

Its amazing to think that it had taken other tech companies this long to get their tablets on the market, when in the meantime Apple has sold millions of iPads!

Another crazy thing, it that way back, Microsoft were almost the first to propose a tablet computer, but at the time tech wasn’t advanced enough to provide battery life and power, connectivity at that small scale, so it died, and now that its back with avengence, where is microsoft? nowhere. Proof that when you’re a huge leading company, your ease of mobility and motivation is seriously affected.

About the iPad2, it will be interesting to see if Apple gives its loyal fans all the features they have been asking for. If apple’s history is anything to go by, I doubt it. The likely situation will be that a few small items will be added but still falling short of what they could do, just to net those buyers who have been waiting on the sidelines, afraid of being an early adopter of Apple products and all that this brings with it.

It will probably take some serious competition from the pc manufacturers to force Apple to stick some real power/features into their IPad in future itterations, but until then Apple fans will be left hoping, a feeling they are quite used to at this point! Judging by how badly the other pc manufacturers are at catching up on the iPad, Apple have a while yet before they need to get worried.

On the other hand, things are changing so fast in the mobile / tablet industry that apple’s product refresh cycle is starting to seem long! It doesn’t exactly inspire you to go out a invest 500 – 800 bucks in a tablet which will be out of date in 2-4 month!

As far as I know, that would only work if you sent the query string

"?xmlfile=bla.xml"

using URLVariables method of the URLLoader. Also the swf which is being loaded would need to be expecting such a flashvar parameter. But all seem a little overly complicated for just sending an xml path into the swf being loaded.

The other solutions in this thread are easier from your point of view, and they would mean just the same amount of work from the client (i.e entering the external.swf xml file’s path into the main template’s xml file somewhere.)

If I’m understanding you correctly, what I’ve done in this situation is to make the init function of the external swf accept an optional xml file path string as a parameter.

This way, once loaded, you just add the external swf to the stage and immediately call the init function passing it the xml file’s path.

Alternatively you can listen for the INIT event when loading the external swf and then you can set a public variable in the external swf file which holds the xml file’s path.
