1) If you’re selling THAT MUCH , it’s no big deal for you to buy a better server. 2) Why don’t you just have an “UPDATE FONTS ” button in the admin panel?
Hi, You didn’t understand anything.
ThemeBlvd saidReally cool idea
I did a lot of research on this before, and ended up just making it so I link the user to the Google font directory. Then they browse, find a font, copy the name of the font into their WP admin panel option, and there’s a little preview button next to the option they can click and have a little ajax call to the font directory to render a preview so they can verify they’ve entered a valid font name. This is not as ideal as obviously a drop down of all the fonts they can choose, but I think it’s going to save a lot of hassle. This is a new feature I’ve implemented but haven’t posted with any themes yet, so we’ll have to see how it works out. Just thought I’d share with you.
+1. Am I allowed to adapt this idea and try out?
some time ago, when Google used plain html output for their Webfonts directory, I used to crawl all the webfonts with regex and give users ability to select automatically all the recent Webfonts without the need of updating the theme files themselfes. Now, when Google changed to AJAX output, I cannot do this anymore. I wonder, if someone else ran into this and maybe got a solution, which can easily be implemented in Themes? I’m thinking about creating a manually updated text file on my own server and read this one from the themes. But there are two negative aspects about this:
1. The more themes I sell, the more my server is going to encounter performance issues (this hypothetical, not practical. Still…). 2. I would have to update the text file myself handy when Google releases new fonts. Pretty lame, too…
Any thoughts about this? As I’m probably going to use this solution, but I think I will integrate only some nice fonts and do not update…
Best regards, indiapart.
Could You point out what exactly You would polish and fix apart from this?
Best regards, indiapart.
This is a sneak preview of my new premium theme. Just would love to know what You’re thinking about it, and maybe You got a solution for a little blemish: if You click on the footer links so the footer drives out and then click again so it drives in and so on, You will sometimes notice the scroll bar appearing shortly during drive out / in animation. This comes, because I use a sticky footer (http://ryanfait.com/sticky-footer/) but need to hide the lower area, so it finally comes to pure computer / browser power if the scroll bar appears or not. Any suggestions?
Not a question of being lazy. To you may be obvious what to do with the zip package, but not to many people especially first time buyers. So, put yourself in their shoes…
The problem is that they cannot get to the Documentation, people have asked me “Where is the Documentation?...”.... So, I have to tell them that they need to extract the zip to get to the Documentation, hence back to my point … all these questions can be avoided…When you sell a package of some sort it is your responsibility to make sure the client understands how to install it or what to do with it. They can’t read your mind.
You are completely right. There are other Marketplaces (Templatemonster, etc.) which got a little bit other working system and deliver the files ready to upload. Still: I don’t ask anyone to read my mind and if Envato obviously doesn’t allow to rename files into *-UNZIP-FIRST.zip, I cannot handle this anyway. But is it overcharged to expect of buyers, who obviously could first deposit money on their PayPal account, than were computer affine enough to buy the theme and hopefully at least knew, that they’re buying a WordPress theme (so they should know what WordPress is, too) and not a complete website, to just UNZIP the file? To just try? To just look, if they missed something? To simply see what’s in there? To show a glimpse of initiative after they’ve payed 30-40 bucks? I personally don’t think so.
But I apologize, this is probably not the directory this thread should point to, so this probably is my last 2cents concerning the buyers
Car and WP theme are not equal. Are they? You cant buy a car for $35. can you?If you ignore the customers, then they will ignore your theme for next time! Wont they? they will. At least I will.
Right, they’re not equal. I would rather show the car buyer how to drive it (but not buy him a license, of course ) than to show how to install the theme, because I will get for the car so much more money (call me egoistic) than for this theme. Also, I don’t mind if these buyers will ignore me for next themes (it would be even better for me and them, if so). They, who don’t know how to install a WordPress Theme but buy one, won’t know also how to follow me here on TF anyway, so what.
Also, don’t forget please, that most Themes have a good documentation attached, where installation is explained anyway. Buyer is too lazy to read? Not my problem. I don’t care about karma in this case, sorry. If support questions are theme related and logically and I see, that buyer at least has read the docs before contacting I’m glad to help and do my best.
But, as I said, not in this (and, I must admit, some more cases, too) case.
In my opinion, that’s the buyers problem. I didn’t have such support questions UNTIL NOW but if they come, I just will ignore them. We are not selling basic WordPress knowledge courses but premium themes. Not less, but also not more. I, as a buyer, don’t buy a car (usually ) as long as I can not drive. So I don’t mind about this, anyway =)
Best regards, indiapart.
I’m not a tattletale so I won’t tell names, but if it’s like You say there are a hole bunch of highly encouraged and well selling authors who broke the rules. Also, in my opinion, it would be more logical if Envato would allow this. If someone has seen my theme and want to buy it, but uses only WordPress but the site is done in Joomla, he will come to Themeforest anyway (apart from loading a nulled version somewhere). And the theme does spread more and possibly even makes some subtile marketing. So it would be a Win-Win Situation. I also don’t think the main point about this stategy is not to hold the Themes as unique as possible (as they’re spreading on Themeforest probably best anyway) but to make Themeforest (or other Envato marketplace sites) the only source for a specifical Theme. Just my theory But if nobody from the Envato stuff will response here, I will ask the support.
Thanks for Your thoughts =) and kind regards, indiapart.
Just realized this thread obviously has been used for support Questions.
Now, first of all: This thread is not thought for theme support andd I will not reply here any more!! Please use the item discussion for support questions.
It is not my duty to seek all the internet or Envato sites for support requests, so at least please find the right place to ask questions. I hope You have some understanding for this.
@HisHandiwork: In my opinion, this may be an absolutely unrelevant and inappropriate post – depending on if You’re just saying it (then it’s absolutely okay) or if You’re trying to say, it’s a copy (then it’s not okay, but I somehow got the feeling, it’s the second case). I also could find many themes which may be very similiar to Yours and there are also many more than Halo which are similiar (and even more than Halo) to Classica. I don’t deny, that I used Classica in some cases as inspiration (especially in overall style), but nothing is copied and absolutely nothing really looks like the Classica (I assume also, it works different, too – but I cannot prove as I just know the Classica demo).
I am asking a moderator to close this thread to make my post the last in case some other buyers come here and want to ask questions, they should see that this thread is not maintenanced by me.
Hi, I have a question. I know, that exclusive authors must sell their items exclusively only on Themeforest. But what, if I want to sell my theme (it’s about my Halo theme here: http://themeforest.net/item/halo-stunning-html-portfolio-theme/302260 which also is available for HTML by the way here on Themeforest) for an other CMS ? Some private or less known or anything? So I’m not selling exactly the items I’m selling here on Themeforest, but I sell the same design. Do I have to make me an unexclusive author, then?
Kind regards, indiapart.
