A WordPress theme uses HTML5 so I guess if you are learning you should start at the bottom of the stack really – HTML5 CSS3 and then PHP and JQuery etc.

If you sell something that you make to sell then yes you pay tax and declare your income. Do you sell referrals? No do you need to pay tax on it why should you? You don’t sell it you gain it on behalf of envato its a donation in a way. People sell items on eBay every day where they don’t pay tax even though they sell things.

Governments tax income. If you earn money from referrals that is income and subject to taxation. Doesn’t matter if it comes via you making and selling something, or referring someone to some site somewhere, if you gain the money, it’s income and taxable.

Due to this uncertain situation i dono whether to upload new items or not infact when ever i start working on new project my mind says it it worth it ? will it get flooded away in the crowd am i wasting time in envato ???

Envato officials you make money from our work why dont you say when there is something wrong ?

being silent like this will kill you one day do remember this :(

Envato will always look at overall figures of which remain pretty steady across such a broad spectrum of authors and sites / file types etc. So they probably don’t see an issue – certainly not like an individual author does.

I was going to mention it but honestly everyone complained about all the other changes and Envato just carried on so didn’t think it was worth the effort – have to agree that it’s incredibly eye-hurting indeed.

I believe this was discussed some time ago and basically you can’t do this according to Envato when you are exclusive – others asked the same question of offering for free with options not available on the free version until license or pro version was purchased etc. Basically same as what you are saying and the answer was no.

I would try and find the link but the forum search is not great, but I do remember it.

Although I agree that allowing people to set their own prices is a scary thing, you have to surely see that allowing the massive 100 demo / website products up for sale is the exact same as price dumping unfortunately.

It’s just a way of getting around selling a WP theme for $4 when you include 10 (or more) complete sites for a little over $40 – therefore Envato handling the pricing does not secure you from price dumping – it’s basically the exact same sanctioned by the powers that be and they have already stated clearly they will not stop this happening.

In fact it’s actually perfect for Envato as they can allow this and still earn a good profit rather than allowing $4 items and having to sell multiple times – it’s the perfect plan. Again everything is set up for Envato’s benefit, not authors.

Makes sense what you are saying, but allowing people to set their own prices will only make it worse.

Worse than 100 sites in one. I doubt it tbh but then again maybe so. I sell on another marketplace that has no review and no price setting – it ‘suggests’ a price range only but it’s your choice. I haven’t seen anyone go silly over there and people respect the prices people charge. The range of prices is extreme from $30 – $175 per theme and all sell.

Why anyone at this stage would be hoping to change Envato’s mind or wait to see if things work out to benefit authors I think is a waste of time. Honestly, how long have you waited for a clear response on things? Months! How clear are they. They are not! Did they already implement the things you are contesting? Yes they have! Will they change their minds? Nope it’s their business plan already put in to action so far.

And when is this going to be taken care of so i know what to tell our clients?

Maybe I don’t fully follow what the issue is / was, but why even wait or give your money over to a 3rd party if you are in direct contact with your clients – just let them buy the theme then do the installation on your own site (put up a stripe form). Why would you want them to go through a 3rd party who just takes your money? They are still dealing with you directly either way, just one way you earn more and it’s easier for your client rather than creating a new account at another site.
