Why was my comment removed completely? Honestly, all I said was I hope you fill the Melbourne positions for UI/UX with people that know what they are doing because right now it seems like you desperately need guidance. Gotta be honest, deleting my post kinda pisses me off especially when you are getting 100% free feedback from your community. Dang.
I don’t see this anywhere?
Hey @hladnakaoisland – I have a product that uses Easy Digital Downloads which is built specifically for what you are looking for – here’s a link to SquareCode http://themeforest.net/item/squarecode-marketplace-for-easy-digital-downloads/8219662
1 license per domain as per the terms and conditions. Hope this helps.
I just requested a staff reply for you, hopefully they can help you out.
Did Envato stop advertising their markets online?
The thing is I never find a single ad related to Themeforest. I checked several industry related web sites and I couldn’t find even one.
Besides, if I search google for “wordpress themes”, Themeforest doesn’t appear in the top three.Could this be one of the reasons sales have decreased?
How about this?
Depends on browser, depends on browser history, depends on your location on the results. For me using a private browsing session the results alter dramatically from non-private session. Basically everyone’s search is different these days. On purpose.
jegtheme said+1 this is a very valid point, even me whose a buyer and an author, I tend to only click on popular items, I believe you re 100% correct the placement definitely sucks the traffic and keeps people from discovering other items.
several years ago, i remember those popular item button is on the most bottom of wordpress drop down category. now it come to the top. it make people tend to buy popular item rather than browse to category related to their need. now sales is sucked only to most popular item.http://web.archive.org/web/20120101082752/http://themeforest.net/
Envato have always configured their sales funnel to popular items, they just tweaked it over the years to be 100% popular files driven – if you look back in the forum archives there is literally years of people complaining about this practice. Again, this is fine for Envato as they earn from every sale, individual authors suffer.
Personally I would remove the Popular Items from the top of the list, and just show the categories, make the tab clickable itself to show all in order of newest first, or replace the Popular with ALL. That way you are forcing exploration of categories and new files.
Envato won’t change the prices I doubt simply because, as I have stated for a very long time now, they earn from every sale, the more sales overall the better. If that is from 100 authors or 10,000 it doesn’t matter. This is not in alignment with what we want as individual authors. We can all see from within what these themes have done, and outside in the wider community of WordPress this hasn’t helped Envato’s image any either. But, the dollars keep rolling in for the company. For now.
I know of several high performing authors who have been here since the start as many of us have that are now making plans and are actively working towards moving off the marketplaces here in the next few months unfortunately, and I feel this is only the beginning.
