“You guys are absolutely right when you say that removing the up / down sort arrow has made a negative impact on usability. However, it’s only true when looked at in isolation. Our goal with the search / browse experience is to make a significant and positive long term impact. “
So if you agree that removing the arrows has reduced usability, then why did you guys do this when the rest of the change that will remove this concern by introducing new things isn’t ready to be shipped? Basically it sounds like this:
1 – we remove something to make it worse 2 – eventually the new shiny thing will fix it
Surely it would be better doing:
1 – remove something, introduce shiny new thing at same time and therefore we have an improvement.
I do understand things have to be done in stages, but why hurt things in the process – make the change a little bigger so the hurt is not an issue.
I appreciate the efforts being made by Envato, I’m just questioning the methods.
There’s nothing stopping you doing this layout in most themes available here tbh. I don’t see anything particularly out of ordinary on the site – let’s break it down, big hero image at top, under it is page content that can be laid out using content in the usual way in WordPress especially using half columns (short codes) that’s all the home page is and 99% of themes have the ability to do this.
As for the blog, there’s literally hundreds of themes with a blog layout like this – right sidebar and content left, each with image, title and meta (to the left) and a read more – again nothing ground breaking, in fact it’s almost box-standard WP blog layout.
I understand and agree with what your saying, but unfortunately I think Envato may see this as a great way of cross-linking different marketplaces. Basically it encourages you to click to a different marketplace because someone you follow has a new file somewhere.
You cannot use any image you do not have rights to use without a license that allows the use in a commercial product, unless it’s from the assets library, or use watermarked images from photo dune or buy a license from photo dune and then do not include the image in your downloads.
There are many unique themes here, many authors fall on the side of trying to be unique, you just have to look through all the same-as ones to find them. Unique can mean many things, unusable being a side-effect of being ‘to unique’ – it’s a fine balance.
“the reason why I continue buying themes here is because of the back-end controls and extensive choice of customizations”
Then why not customize?
Sorry, I’m not clear. Please can you give me specific instructions as to how to reduce the space ie where do I find the screen.css ? I wasn’t able to see it in the editor.
Also do you have any ideas why might site is slow? Is this because of the theme??jonathan01 said
Looking at the about page I don’t particularly see anything wrong? You have paragraghs that have spacing between them which is set in the screen.css at 1em padding top and bottom line 34 – if you want to reduce the gap then simply alter the amount of padding or don’t wrap all your text in separate p tags, just wrap all of it once and use a break tag.
Personally I think the spacing works well for definition and easy ready – I will say your site is incredibly slow though.Jonathan
Unfortunately I’m not at liberty to provide support for this theme – you should contact the author directly via the method outlined for their support (if offered) with the product purchased, or by following the link provided by the staff member above – however searching your theme directory you should find the style sheet and edit – a search in google for basic html editing should also help you out. As for your site, could be many things, your content (images if not optimized prior to uploading), plugins (too many slow things down) or just low cost hosting, you kinda get what you pay for with hosting so if you are with hostgator / go daddy etc then that may well be your issue.
I hope that helps get you started.
@marketopia – although your efforts should be commended it really isn’t the correct answer to have to direct someone off the marketplaces for any reason, not the least just so that they can find files to actually buy!
It’s ridiculous to even think that, it’s a total embarrassment that buyers are here complaining and we still have useless search in place and it seems to be getting worse not better.
@tips4design – May I take this opportunity to apologize that you had to come here to state what others are also saying – I truly hope your experience becomes better quickly and I appreciate you hanging in there – nothing us authors can do unfortunately and we’re here voicing the same concerns!
