Hi guys!

How do you improve your design skills? By design skills I mean look of website, usability and user experience. I’m rather developer than designer and I’d like to change that. But by looking for ‘web design’ in Google I’m finding resources about things like CSS/HTML/JS, not about design itself. Thats make me think what ‘web design’ is and how to call part creating beautiful websites then if it’s not ‘web design’.

Do you know some good resources that teach about good, modern design? What are your tricks to train it?

Hi!

I want to connect to Themeforest API inside theme code. However Theme Check shows me message:

WARNING: curl_init was found in the file framework/core/Util/Envato.php possible file operations.

So my question is if I can use curl in themes code?

Basing of all your previous code, and on fact that envato security now require API requests to have user-agent set – I’ve made this class and simple method that seems to work.

class Envato {

    public static function verifyPurchase($userName, $apiKey , $purchaseCode, $itemId = false) {

        // Open cURL channel
        $ch = curl_init();

        // Set cURL options
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, "http://marketplace.envato.com/api/edge/$userName/$apiKey/verify-purchase:$purchaseCode.json");
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT, 'ENVATO-PURCHASE-VERIFY'); //api requires any user agent to be set

        // Decode returned JSON
        $result = json_decode( curl_exec($ch) , true );

        //check if purchase code is correct
        if ( !empty($result['verify-purchase']['item_id']) && $result['verify-purchase']['item_id'] ) {
            //if no item name is given - any valid purchase code will work
            if ( !$itemId ) return true;
            //else - also check if purchased item is given item to check
            return $result['verify-purchase']['item_id'] == $itemId;
        }

        //invalid purchase code
        return false;

    }

}

Hi

I’m developing wp for few years now and I’ve got quite great experience about it.

I’ve got my own framework that let me create working theme from design quickly.

I’m designer but I’m not happy with my skills thats why I’m looking for you ;) – for experienced web designer.

Please send me mail from my profile on themeforest with your works. It would be great if you already have some accepted themeforest projects. I’ll ignore emails without any finished work example as you need to have finished good quality projects in your portfolio to call yourself experienced.

I’m quite sure we will both be happy about how such work would be going.

You can also post replies here – but same rule – I’ll ignore ones without any work examples or proof about your skills.

Cheers, have a good day.

I want to make some course that will be based on adjusting some html template. I want to base it on item from themeforest. After course is finished, I want to make students be able to explore result code so I’d publish modified html template for them. Noone will be charged for that. Am I allowed to do that having standard licence of item?

Sometimes when one wants to buy some theme – expectations are quite specific and finding right theme requires browsing hundreds of them. You need to hover mouse on each thumb to see image preview (and you want to see preview for every item obviously), then you need to scroll, anim your mose again, go to next page, anim mouse, scroll, hover. It’s quite distracting and a lot of things is unnecesarry and obvious here.

I bet need of animing mouse and possibility to see only 1 preview at once (when humans eye is good at quickly looking for many items looking for interesting one) slows down browsing by 50-80%.

What I think would be good is kind of option ‘type of list view’ in sidebar with possibility to choose image preview to be displayed on the list without need to hover thumb. Then browsing items would be much quicker as the only action you need to see theme preview is to look at it. Another thing I would say would be great is infinite scroll option, so the only thing left is scrolling down with pure experience of looking at previews looking for item you need.

What you think guys?

Hi people!

I’m making some little project based on human write language parsing and as I’m not english native speaker in some cases I’m not sure how some sentence should be parsed.

I need some native speaker (no expert of english, just normal speaking) for about 2 hours. I could offer free copies of my envato items for that or some simple help with my development experience.

Contact me via email.
