Hello everyone,

I opened this thread to share with you guys all the soft rejection reasons I got since I started submitting work on ThemeForest. I think it might be a good idea for all of us to have a checklist of the main reasons of soft rejection in order to get our items approved with minimum delay, it would be great if you want to share your reasons too, and for the sake of organization anyone wants to share use this formula:

# Category Name
- List of reasons

And I’ll start with myself

Site templates

  1. Use local version of jQuery.
  2. All JavaScript should be written with use strict mode on.
  3. Delete the images from the main file and replace them with placeholders.
  4. Inline CSS is not allowed.

WordPress

  1. Please remove the quickstart
  2. Make sure all the WP default widgets display properly in all widgetized areas. You can check with monster widgets plugin.
  3. Data Validation issues have been found in your theme. All dynamic data must be correctly escaped for the context where it is rendered.
    • All dynamic data must be escaped with esc_attr() before rendered in an HTML attribute.
    • Whenever you are rendering a URL to the screen its value must be passed through esc_url() first.
    • If dynamic data is rendered inside an attribute that triggers a JavaScript event, it must be escaped with esc_js(). Please make sure you read these articles:
  4. Enqueue the Google fonts the right way – Link.
  5. Please provide a more in-depth documentation.
  6. How to test the blog/posts layout/functionality.
    • Import the Theme Unit Test – Link – file and make sure that:
      • Posts display correctly, with no apparent visual problems or errors.
      • Posts display in correct order.
      • Page navigation displays and works correctly.
      • As “sticky posts” are a core feature, the theme should style and display them appropriately.
      • Lack of body text should not adversely impact the layout.
      • Theme must incorporate both the “Tag” and the “Category” taxonomies in some manner.
      • Floats are cleared properly for floated element (thumbnail image) at the end of the post content.

Hello everyone,

Today i got a hard rejection with this feedback from the reviewer :

We already have a number of submissions with the same overall design and concept and we have to draw the line somewhere.

I think we’re reached a point of saturation. At this point, we’re only looking for unique variations of this design: for another one to be approved it would have to have a couple of unique touches and features that differentiate it from what’s already available and definitely be of higher quality.

Minimal templates can be clean and simple when you manage to handle the white space and details to provide a simple but yet unique template. But if you can’t, it will look like an incomplete template – blank template.

In this case, the submitted template is more like a ‘framework’ than a full fledged design. If you’re going with minimalism, you need to make sure all the little details check out.

Here is my template demo

Is it really that bad to be hard rejected, should i contact support, any opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.
