Hi all ye “smack like” addicts of purchases! Just wondering if other buyers have slowed down as much as i have? I don’t seem to be depositing as much money into my profile to constantly keep buying themes. It’s almost like the price rise (that should have been done along time ago, but in a better manner), has thrown me off my buying and spending MOJO . If I look at my buying pattern, I was almost buying a 2-3 themes every month.
We are in day 17 of June, and still have not bought a theme. Am I cured from the price rise that we didn’t get a nice smooth warning about?
But on another note it has made me think I need to be an author now, and see how sales go. I will be interested to hear from other buyers to see how their spending mojo is going. I will also like to hear from some authors to hear if the price rise has caused a small halt on their sales.
Granted that the price rise does mean you only have to sell a few less to still make the same margin, but with less questions to answer

+1 to be a hybrid… lol. Great topic, can see this going wayward quick… Now, let me go Dribbble
For me, personally, it just means no more impulse purchases. I have no idea if there are more people like me on here, but that might affect sales. I doubt it’ll hurt because there are a lot of “aftermarket” buyers here as well and their purchases will probably balance that out.LOL … can I sell back my impulses that I have never used at the new price of $40? now that is what I call Win-Win
ViperThemes saidWell said.. A 73hr rush would have had me buying pronto pronto… Would have been a superb opportunity for Envato to market this.
Well speaking as someone who was JUST about to purchase a theme I’m not exactly digging the MASSIVE price hike without notice!I was just looking at a theme I was going to buy at the price of $35… decided to wait till after dinner to buy and now it’s all of a sudden $45? WTH ?
Why do they always blast their latest sale for a week at the top of the site but neglect to even mention the impending huge price increase to the general public?
They SHOULD have really played it up as an event to avoid pissing people off AND causing a drop in sales. Imagine they had a 72 hour countdown timer at the top of the page that said “Network Wide Price increase set in _ BUY YOUR THEMES NOW before the price hike!”
That way you would have had all the people that were on the fence about buying a certain theme more likely to pull the trigger, there would have been a surge in sales and those people that were waiting till after dinner to buy wouldn’t have waited to buy.
But instead, having done it this way (the… lets just do it quietly and maybe they won’t notice method) all that’s been done is scare away those that were on the fence.
Way to miss a HUGE marketing opportunity Envato… I myself may just have to reconsider buying this theme I wanted now that the price has been severely jacked up.
And yes I know that the themes are getting more advanced and I agree a price increase is a good idea, but I just think the consumers (the most VALUABLE members of the site cause they’re the ones supporting this entire marketplace with their money) should have had SOME kind of heads up… notice atop the site, a brief mention in the Envato newsletter…. SOMETHING ….. bah.

jdtribe saidI know how you feel I’ve been watching one that was for $25 for a week now and decided to buy it today but stop when i noticed its price jumped to $55. now im rethinking about what i buy now because i usually just mess around with the item i buy for a couple months then i drop it for something else so i will be cutting back on what im spending. throughout all the marketplaces on the envato network. i didn’t mind wasteing $35 on a item just to move on to another in a couple weeks but with prices increasing by $15 ill cut back.
I’ve been eying a certain theme for about a week and was just about to purchase it today and was surprised the price changed from $35 to $50 overnight.
I know how you feel, I do this every time, buy a theme, mess around with it, see if it truly fits my needs, and then quite often go buy another and see which is better. It will be a bit more tricky now as buying 2 themes to see which one is better is going to be costly at $110. As I pointed out as a power buyer, I will most likely not be as free with my $$.

We can argue all day about whether this is good or not… but for me, the proof will be in the pudding. If sales volume stays constant, it proves that the market will bear the price increase; If sales volume decreases significantly (to the extent where total sales revenue actually decreases), the market will essentially be saying that it doesn’t tolerate the increase. Naturally, this will take time to really get a good read on this though… power buyers might be pissed off at first, sellers might be ecstatic (or in some cases, irritated), but only time and statistics will tell. So, I’d personally love to see some rough percentage statistics of ‘before’ and ‘after’ in a month or two. Any chance we can get something like that (I know the marketplace has done this in the past… they are remarkably transparent with this stuff from time to time).
I’d gladly share my own numbers as well! It’s always fun to see how the marketplace as a whole is doing though. Just percentages would be cool – ie: 18% increase in total sales. 10% increase in units sold.
PS – on the note of power buyers… what if we had a sort of “power buyer” perk where once you cross over a certain threshold of dollars spent here, you get a permanent discount?
Yes do it please… I would fall in that category surely.. +333 purchases and counting. Is that power buying?
Wow, nice clean looking theme. Will be interested to hear more of why it was rejected.
Actually what I would like to add as a buyer is that I will be much more careful on selecting themes that I want. Previously I would just buy with no hesitation of a $35 theme, it digests well and doesn’t seem like too much to spend. But now that I have roamed through the first page of TF on the themes, I can now say that I probably won’t spend as much money as I used to. I will be looking for themes that are hugely unique now. But then again, it is only a fresh opinion since today. Tomorrow or next week might be a different mindset.
Another point, I am very honest with my purchases, I never use a theme twice without purchasing the second licence. I think you will find that some people will go and be tempted to just abuse the system a little. For argument sake, I helped someone on one of the woo commerce themes to set their site up, I tested it for them, made a sample purchase. Now they have cloned the database a multitude of times and sold to different companies. How do I know this? I get every frickin payment reminder to buy a skirt from every other website being built… (its driving me nuts)
But this is an indication that some people are misusing their licenses to build out sites for free. Not nice.
Hi, as a purchaser I don’t mind the increase in $5, it just makes me want to be an author more now. I am happy to pay an extra few $$, my wife will be the one that notices the bank balance… lol
yes, unfortunately the demo does not do this plugin any justice what so ever. If you would like to see it in action, I have used it on a client site www.fishfuelco.com.au On the top I have a link to allow shops to setup a location easy, and when you go to the shop finder, you will see it in action.
All the fields in the plugin are so fantastic, and quite allot of it does not get talked about in the description.
I should let you know that the plugin is really easy to use, right off the bat it just works without fussing about to much.
