I found a great article that compares all frameworks. Really in depth, and great comparison charts: http://wpmu.org/wordpress-framework-comparison/

I like Woo, but remember a while back getting frustrated customizing the code to a theme ‘cause I didn’t understand all the hooks and loops going on. I guess now you can customize the layouts using their options panel.

I’ve worked with Thesis in the past. Hated it, seemed clunky and just had tons of files and seemed over complicated.

I took a look at Pagelines and don’t like their themes. The designs are to basic and not sophisticated enough.

Here’s a list of existing frameworks: http://www.pagelines.com/ http://www.studiopress.com/features http://catalysttheme.com/ http://diythemes.com/

Just wondering what most of you think is a great blank slate Wordpress theme that’s powerful, flexible and easy to customize.

I’ve recently discovered the theme Mural by Unisphere (sold here) that has really awesome theme options. You can customize almost everything from there: load skins, duplicate skins, add sliders on all pages, custom backgrounds, and tons more. Really recommend it, but I just ran it through a speed analyser and it got a bad score. Seems the code isn’t really that optimized.

So what’s your take on the best Wordpress platform? I’m looking into Pagelines right now. Looks pretty sweet.

Thanks!

Just wondering if any photographers have tried to sell their works as prints or on canvas on the web? Either on a marketplace or website (where?) or your own website (with eCommerce). Just wondering if it’s worth doing. Have any of you succeeded making money like this?

Thanks for any feedback!

What do you think is the best eCom platform for WP and why? Most popular are:

Over the last couple of days I’ve been seeing @fontface replacements not rendering properly. Text is all jumbled and illegible. Seems there’s a conflict between fonts on your system (installed with a font manager) and what the web page is trying to fetch. Seems OS X is the culprit, as it overiddes the css/browser and then can’t display it properly.

Here they explain it better: http://www.fontgeek.net/blog/?cat=4

So, I’ve disabled my font in my manager and rebooted Chrome, and now it renders fine. Anyone find a solution on how to deal with this? This can be a major issue, as any designer having the font you are using on their system already won’t display correctly for them.

Has anyone encountered this. When installing Forums site wide you can’t post any topics or see the forums. WTH ? Just thinking this might be causing lots of headaches for Buddypress themers.

Oh I know, those are custom designs and I realize that things must be done in a different way. I can work within their constraints no problem.

Thanks for the heads-up dexterous!

Hello, starting in March, I will be designing some themes for TF. I want to hire/partner with a coder who has experience coding Wordpress themes and is easy to work with. I’m a talented designer and have been freelancing for over 10 years. I’m looking to make a change and been wanting to get into this market. I believe I can deliver some very beautiful designs, that are very different from the typical seen here. My goal is to push the theme design to a new level and be a top seller.

I love what I do, and enjoy working with like-minded folks. I’m easy to get along with and very trustworthy. If you are reliable and professional, please get in touch with me by sending me a private message on how to get in touch with you.

Here are samples of my work, I think it speaks for itself: http://cleanlinesportfishing.com http://altusmountainguides.com http://frogbox.com http://www.squamishoceanfront.com

cheers! Mel

That’s awesome, thanks for the reply! As a web designer you can’t deny that this is the future, you either get on for the ride, or get left in the dust.

Are you a designer or developer, or both? I’m a designer who knows WP backwards… but I’m not a coder, and these themes are really pushing WP as a CMS with all the added functionalities with the super admins. I don’t even know where to begin to figure out how to do this, or where to find a coder that knows all the tools and best practices.
