how do you start making wordpress templates from a psd file

Brain Template after installing and getting to creating the home page via documentation. i stil see a side bar (blog side bar) after choosing full width (no sidebar ) for a homepage

and now i cannot log in there?

when i add items to a menu, like the gallery or a menu category , it shows on the sidebar, but it does not open when clicked to the content area…

would you know what it might be
