I could really use a definite answer from Envato whether this is allowed or not. In my eyes its not allowed but cant find a definite answer. Based on my initial understandings of the licenses I advise my clients not to buy these particular modules.
On the marketplace for DNN modules once and again there are new module released that are based on the various jQuery sliders and other plugins from CodeCanyon.
For instance there is a now a new slider module now selling based on a slider module from here in prices ranging from $99 to $399 ( so with selling one product they already have there money back for the extended license )
They are selling 3 variations/licenses
1. single use $99 2. unlimited use $ 249 3. source ( comes with full source of the DNN module and its resource files ) $399
I know the 3rd option should never be possible as that is clearly mentioned in the license that you cant distribute items with source.
As far as I know I can’t buy an extended slider license and then without permission from the script owner make and sell a wordpress version on the marketplace. So I assume this is the same for other external marketplaces where you cant use extended license to create different products without permission or a deal with the original developer.
Can someone from Envato please clear this for me once and for all. If someone buys an extended license on CodeCanyon can he sell his version on external marketplaces without notifying and permission of the original author.
I think this needs more clarification in the license details
Well this thread should either be closed or people should stay on topic more as the last x conversations had nothing to add other than interacting with the comments and remarks of one specific buyer
Well as a longtime buyer, you don’t hear me complain because for the amount i pay if there is an issue ill mention it to the seller but most of the time I have it fixed myself before the update is there. The advantages of being a technical buyer, but I do understand not all buyers are technical.
You wont hear me complain about support for this price unless its realy bad and should not have been on the store in the first place but what i do want as a buyer is that even if a buyer removes it from the store it will still be available for the previous buyers to redownload
and sorry Ruben I do have plans to buy from you for an upcoming project I hope that is OK
mm would I really want to see how much I actually spend here
Another question regarding the extended license. I thought this was not allowed and this was confirmed here by a staff reply however I see someone doing what I wanted to do buy an extended license for a themeforest html theme and release this on a dotnetnuke store as a dotnetnuke skin and sell there.
I saw this is being done with one theme form here. i contacted the original author and he mentioned that this was allowed as he had the extended license and his permission
However here is a tricky part. This theme also contains codecanyon plugins and these authors have not given any permission to use this. So how can permission given by one author if this also contains plugins from other authors ( themepunch ) in this case .
Would sure like some explantion about this specific setup
Ok how about this usage
I buy a jquery module extended license. I now use the full script unmodified and just create a backend for it so that the slide can be used and maintained in a Joomla, Drupal DotNetNuke or similar portal system
Is this allowed or not because I have seen a few around but if I read your license explanationYou can’t re-distribute the Item as stock, in a tool or template, or with source files. You can’t do this with an Item either on its own or bundled with other items, and even if you modify the Item. You can’t re-distribute or make available the Item as-is or with superficial modifications.
it seems this is NOT allowed am I correct?
Pressed button too soon
Technically I look for
Well commented code. Even if I don’t have to go in the code of scripts I always check if the code is well commented. If this is the case that another proof for me that the author spend time on his product.
HTML themes should also be well commented. These will be used in various CMS systems so it should be easy for me to modify it and not having to go deep in the code and find out for myself where each item block starts or ends.
Documentation is a pre. Every feature should be well documented. If I can not find documentation in the live preview in a file that I am considering buying that I always ask the author to send a screenshot or a few pages so I can see how the documentation is setup. its not that I can;t code ur understand code but i don’t want to spend unnecessary time in understanding how it works.
Of course there should be a perfect demo. If you want to win me over in buying an item I have to see how versatile something is especially in jQuery plugins if you have a basic a normal and a very different example this is proof enough for me to buy it.
Another thing im looking for in themes is a credit section on the item page / part of the deliverable. Which external scripts are used but also which images are used. Sometime I would like to reuse some of the images myself and i would like to know where i can buy each of them.
