Long time somehow disconnected, now i think i’m having a huge déjá vu, VF & DS discussing about homepage exposure.
(...) Facebook and twitter are essentially the same thing but the way they are used is very very different and for that reason I have chosen to stop using the one I don’t like.
From Twitter (on several accounts, i don’t know who was the original author):
I prefer Twitter to facebook, talking to people you don’t know and will never meet, rather than people you have met and wished you hadn’t.
Drive bikes from almost 15 years now. Run fast with it on open public roads is one of the most stupid things you can do with your life. Maybe the only way to learn it is to see a friend dying on a curve because he was reckless driving. Mine did; and i learnt.
Enough risky the bike alone when you realise an insurance can cover everything but you.
^ +1 for BCN meetup!
(now let’s back on topic )
... small bump
Hi. First of all, i’m not a newbie with WPMS, but this is first time i’m trying to do this, so i ask here for some help before going any further. MS is bit tricky while doing this stuff…
Point is, i’ve a site with 2 WP installed, one per language on subfolders. I’ll be moving to a fresh new install with Multisite, but i can’t disable the currents while i’m working on new site. So, as i’ve another (unused) domain pointing to the same machine, i’ve installed the WPMS on a subfolder on root (/2014) as a destination for that domain, with subdomain network configuration.
My question is: Once i’ve finished the new site, can i point the main domain to that folder, changing later the domain string on SQL?
Looks like the kind of things that turns into a nightmare (coffee, midnight red eyes, cigarretes even when i don’t smoke…) once i’ll try it out.
Any helps and tips will be appreciatted!
Could I still show my client the progress of the site via a url or anything? or would they have to be in front of my computer?
Make another user for them. Logged users see real site. I’ve used Underconstruction plugin many times, it’s pretty useful and flexible.
EDIT: what i meant is, keep their current site on server, point to it on the plugin config settings.
pezflash saidIt will not help in the long run. If the initial exposure time – popularity benefits – searchability aren’t balanced, we can’t expect consistency of profit – including Envato. About time
Populars featuring strategy returns more money for Envato. That’s all and it happens on any ecommerce business. Legit enough. Move on.
Maybe the question here is “Who is we?”
Also, i think Envato is already in the long run, considering the last 6 years with the same strategy.
@DS, i’m not saying the point of view you are displaying is wrong, i think is great and i appreciate your brain-contribution (i’ve always loved your perspective, except if we talk about pyramids but i’m sure Envato won’t make big changes regarding this, except cosmetic things here and there. It’s obvious that some buttons on homepage have odd and unexpected behaviours, but that won’t change the fact that the whole marketplace is focused on promote the same big-seller files, to make them bigger. That’s the only way to make pointless the huge and disproportionate number of files accepted everyday. Hope this makes clear my opinion.
