I don’t want to be THAT guy, and I’m sure everyone here has heard this a million times, but here goes: This is what is expected when you are the product, if you pay for the service like ADN then this stuff will never happen.

I think a lot of people misunderstood ADN at the very beginning, they thought it was just a Twitter clone without ads, but in fact it can b the infrastructure behind any social network.

Bitbucket have unlimited free private repos, however there is a clause that you need to be respectful and responsible in terms of sizes. IE: Not using it for you MP3 collection is an example they use on the site.

As long as you use it for it’s intended purposes (IE: code) then you won’t encounter any issues.

I use Git. I have a Micro Plan with Github ($7) and a free account with Bitbucket.

I use Github for my own private repos because I prefer the issue tracking, wikis etc. However, I use Bitbucket for my commercial apps because it’s quicker and easier (don’t need issues etc), and not to mention free.

Yeah, so going back to my original question in my first post, it’s #1 you are after, with a predefined list. You kind of went off at a tangent implying you wanted it to automatically gather the keywords and the URLs.

This free WordPress plugin will do exactly what you are after: http://wordpress.org/plugins/keyword-replace/screenshots/

I’m not too keen. Personally I don’t like the transition time like when it’s locked and you turn it on, that fade in is too slow and I double tap because I don’t think it’s responding.

For me, it’s a step backwards for UX, it feels clumsy and slow, it seems too much energy was spent on the design rather than actual functionality and real life usage.

Just my 2 cents

Hello,

In that case, my plugin would not be suited as it required there to already be URLs in the content.

The problem here is that you want something that’s going to automatically pick up product names, but you need to ask yourself how can it do it? Will there be a predefined list? Who will manage this list? Where will it come from? OR Will it search for each word? How will it know to group all the terms?

I think what you are after isn’t doable in a real production environment, because it will either require a long list of predefined product names and URLs, or it will require some serious overhead to split into words then lookup each word, then try different groups of words to form a product (EG: In “This is my canon 10-22mm lens” it will have to break up into words, then try different boundaries, such as “My Canon”, “My canon 10-22mm” “Canon 10-22mm” etc etc).

So, just to confirm what you are after, are you wanting:

1) A system where you enter the keyword and URL, and then it replaces it when found in the content, title, excerpt

2) You already enter the Amazon URLs into your content, and you want to just add you associate referral ID to the URL?

Reason I ask, is that I have an item which is for the Envato marketplaces and automatically adds the referral URL when it finds an Envato Marketplace URL, and if a referral already exists it removes it and adds your own.

Now, if you entered all URLS on your site in this format “http://www.amazon.com/dp/0812972155/” then I will be able to do some modifications to adjust it to work with Amazon links to add your referral.

If this sounds like what you want, please feel free to get in touch via my profile page.

That particular element is called the Omnibox, you could install Chromium instead: http://www.chromium.org/Home

Props to Jamie Curle who mentioned this a few hours back on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jamiecurle/status/370836020755193856
