we were worried as you are about this new changes and contacted Envato Tax Team to clarify all this. They stated that Envato will collect all the VAT and handle it (will pay the taxes and handle them in full with the tax authorities). They are working on what documentation will be provided to us, where can be seen that Envato pays the VAT, so we won’t have to (no double taxing). They will inform us on what document will be provided soon. So there is no need to worry. We will archive this document and in case of any problem with tax authorities in our countries we will only need to show that document where is clearly shown that the VAT is already paid. We also spoke with our accountant (We are from European Union) and he stated that this is the way the things need to be handle and that, that specific document is enough for us (authors), so we won’t have to pay VAT and will have no problem with tax authorities. Hope you understand all of this what I wrote
Perhaps we all should take a breather and calm ourselves down a bit? I could be totally wrong here, but I understand the following:
1. Envato will handle paying the VAT (this is really the only option with the current system)
2. Envato has stated that, for VAT/tax purposes, Envato acts as the seller (when we all know that Envato IS in fact the sellers, but whatever )So what is the big issue? Is it just the fact that in the TOS they’ve stated that we (authors) are selling directly to buyers? Is it this particular sentence that gets everybody up in arms? If so, why? Who cares, really? For all intends and purposes, Envato is the seller.
+1. We only need to ask Envato document issued by their government that they actually paid the taxes, so there is no double taxing and that is it. You archive that document as a proof that taxes are paid and in case of any problems with Tax offices in your country, you only need to show that document where is visible that the taxes has been already paid by Envato.
Hm.. From my understanding situation is like this. Collis stated they will handle the VAT. That means they will collect it and pay it accordingly. In that case we (authors) only need to ask written document from Envato that they have already collected the VAT and paid taxes, so there is no double taxes (for us).. This should be simple, if it will work that way.
