With the change just unveiled to the rating system this problem is about to get to a whole new level of hell.
Now even a buyer who rated 5 start after buying the file and loving its features, can return and give a 1 star when ever he/she comes up against a (5min) change which you refuse to do!
We only offer support for features which dont work as described due to a bug. If the request is concerning anything else, we can answer in short about how a buyer might go about achieving what they are after, but we will rarely jump in and make changes for them.
Buyers don’t understand that a finished template / plugin is a delicate balance of features and cross browser support. A 5 min change for a buyer may actually take 5 mins to change the source code, but could take hours to make sure it work cross browser not to mention works will all combinations of other existing features. So to agree to do this change is just the tip of the iceberg…you are also getting yourself into a situation where you are then feeling obligated to fix any conflicts that arise out of the new change you have made..because you caused them for the buyer and you now can’t leave him/her hanging….and it goes on.
The solution is just not to get involved in the first place.
I’d say this is a bad move and has not been thought through by Enavto.
So in an attempt to fix the rare situation where a buyer mistakingly gives a rating of 1 star, the system has been completely opened, creating a situation where a buyer, who is angry that you won’t bend over backwards (again) and help make the latest change requested by their client, can use the ratings as a device to get revenge on authors (who are not required to give support in the first place)!
IMO it would make more sense to allow 1 single change only of the rating system, to allow for the correction of a mistake rating, and that this rating, if lower then the first one, is required to be accompanied by an explanation / feedback / reason for change – which is sent anonymously to the author.
This would obviously still be open to abuse, but in a limited way compared to this new system.
zendesk for ticketing system and vbulletin for forums.
forum registration only allowed for buyers, we wrote a small plugin to check purchase code against Envato API .
zendesk is unvaluable for us, handling all mails from envato and our site and reditecting support request to forum while still being able to answer presale and freelance questions by just replying to ticket.
Also, since we are a team, it allows us to receive each other mails without messing with bcc.
about vbulletin, nothing to add except is by far the best forum software you can find.
To give for free = distributing the theme to people who will use it without paying
that’s simply not the case here.
MelforDMThemes saidIt’s not free distribution if he’s not going to use the theme for anything else that making his plugin compatible.
Free distribution is not allowed afaik
Both items would still be sold here, both authors could benefit so why should Envato have something against it ?
why it shouldn’t ? great feature btw.
Thank you all for your proposals.
We have found our guy. This thread can be closed now.
