Make it easy on yourself.
What kind of theme did you purchase? WordPress?
Go to hostgator.com and register your domain name (pick anything you want) and buy you “web storage” (aka hosting) there. They have a 1-click install application that will install WordPress for you. Their technical support will help you if get lost somewhere along the way.
Once you have a WordPress site setup, your theme will have documentation that explains how to install it and start customizing it.
You are probably trying to install the entire packaged bundle rather than just the theme itself. Unzip the file and you should find another folder inside with the name of the theme, a documentation folder, etc.
Just upload the folder with the name of the theme to your WordPress site.
I don’t find that too hard I’ve been working from “home” since I was about 14 so I’ve got into my mind set work is different to relaxing
No, but I’m not sure how the job market in the UK compares to the US.
I think the opportunities to work from home are greater if you get hired on as a contractor through a temp agency (you can get long term contracts that are 1 year+) rather than a salaried employee that is a direct hire.
Sorry to be blunt, but the graphics are very amateur.
If the development side is your strong point, team up with a graphic designer to create themes.
I am not a TF author (yet) but I work for a company that is very flexible with working remotely and I’ve also worked as a contractor from home in the past.
I think being able to successfully work from home depends a lot on you. I get distracted easily, and being at home just makes it worse. When I work from home I take far too many breaks—going to the kitchen to make a snack, watching TV, etc. It’s much more difficult to stay focused for an extended period of time at home than it is when I’m at my office. If I were to ever become fully self-employed by either freelancing or TF, I would probably have to rent an office space outside of my home because it would drive me crazy to never leave the house and be around other people.
I agree with the first poster about it looking generic.
However, if you ask me there are loads of templates on TF that look generic and somehow got approved. I haven’t taken the time to create and upload any of my own themes for this very reason. I have a hard time distinguishing what will and will not make the cut here.
