I’m not sure. My promotions have always been fine on Flickr, until today.

Maybe someone reported the account which brought it to their attention.

Hey guys,

I’ve recently been upping my items to gallery websites like Flickr and I just received a message from them.

Before you make the same mistake and have your account terminated after spending time promoting your content, I thought I’d share this email with you:

Subject: Commercial

Hello, Adam!

This is a copy of a warning we sent to your primary email address:

Hi ,

In joining Flickr, you agreed to abide by the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Flickr accounts are intended for individual use, for our members to share original content that they’ve created, not to sell stuff:

“Don’t Use Flickr for Commercial Purposes Flickr is for personal use only. If you sell products, services or yourself through your photostream, we will terminate your account. Any other commercial use of Flickr, Flickr technologies (including APIs, Flickrmail, etc), or Flickr accounts must be approved by Flickr.”

http://www.flickr.com/help/guidelines/

Please remove the URLs that link to your store/auction(s) from underneath your photos/video and/or any sales verbiage or “for sale” sets at your earliest convenience so that we don’t have to take further action on your account.

Regards,

Flickr Staff

If you’d like to respond to this warning, please send the email to caseXXXXXXX@support.flickr.com to ensure a timely response. You can change your primary email address at any time via your account page: http://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/email/

Of course sharing artwork on Flickr is fine, but linking the images to sites where you sell the “image” appears to be against their terms.

so.. summing up,

there is a chance that you create something for a client and after couple of days you can get a message : sorry you won’t be paid, you just lost 2 or more days of your work!

why then try using microlancer? if you cannot even verify that client … so shame!

There used to be and article on FreelanceSwitch by a designer who produced and delivered work for a client, then months later the client filed a chargeback and Paypal refunded his money.

I can’t find the article as FSW has moved/merged into Microlancer and Google isn’t playing ball…

but the point: this can happen whether a client pays up front through an online service like Microlancer or meets and greets you all friendlily and smiley and you deal with money privately.

http://buysellads.com is popular within the design community.

You can make a good amount of money is your traffic is high enough quality. Likewise if you have quality traffic placing Google Adsense can have great returns.
