“if they don’t know how to make a layer visible” C’mon… Those people (otherwise seldom) strike you because of their own fault, because of their own frustration. And if its not the hidden layer, then i tell you what: “because of the font not included”, “because the picture is not included”, “because the vector smart object not editable in photoshop” “they dont have photoshop” < don’t laugh, beacause it’s real.

Very true.

Lots of people ask me why the PSDs are blank, or where they get the fonts, etc – these problems don’t stem from the fact layers have been turned off or fonts need to be downloaded and installed from third party websites,

they come from the user being too lazy to bother reading the documentation.

If you choose to make use of techniques like hidden layers, maybe the requirement of the Author should be to provide proper Documentation rather than not using such techniques.

After all, it’s a feature of Photoshop, it’s a working PSD and it’s aimed at the professional market – if someone doesn’t understand how to use a PSD fully, it’s not the fault of the Author.

It’s like saying “You can’t use smart objects or layer fx, as some people may not know how to use these features”

...imo.

Not casting opinion on this rule change, but I turn off all the layers in the free files I give away and in some cases, simply turning of layer visibility reduces file size by 25%.

I find myself wondering why I am giving envato a massive 50%, or 67% in the case of my non-exclusive account?

So that you can use their fantastic and widely used (within our niche) sales platform.

This is the same as how music labels spend millions on ad campaigns for new releases and direct all the traffic to iTunes.

I understand what quickandeasy wants to say but he can do so in a nicer manner. At first I though he ‘d pop out of my screen and bit the crap out of me just because I was sharing my opinion with my fellow authors.

My apologies if I come across in an unfriendly manner, that isn’t my intention.

My intention is however to make the solid point that as Authors, the success and selling of our files is our business.

Market is not competitive, but divided. It is’t happened by purpose, it happened “natural” because of the wrong exposure. Search engine is’t work for buyers…

I disagree.

Saying the marketplaces are ‘divided’ implies that each Author deserves an equal share.

The marketplaces are competitive, as any business marketplace is. This is a business and there are people here selling the same as you. You therefore have competition.

RE buyers finding your items etc – this is the exact point I am making about Authors doing their own promotion.

If you want to make sales on your items, be proactive and put your products in front of potential buyer’s eyeballs yourself – like every other business does.

Don’t simply sit there waiting for them to find you.

Sales are increasing.

So if you write something in bold, that makes it true. I’m gonna give it a try.

I’m the greatest guitarist ever to have lived.

No, writing it in bold doesn’t make it true, but comments like this do.

If everyone had decreasing sales, I could understand the above arguments – but they’re not.

Sales are increasing.

This means that there is more money being spent and more money available for the taking.

As I’ve mentioned in previous comments, this is a competitive marketplace, Authors have to be proactive to stay on top.

Yes, of course Authors with increasing sales will say the market is good and those without increasing sales will complain – however those Authors with increasing sales are the Authors who are putting the work into promoting their products, creating better products, creating products regularly and creating products that are in demand.

Not simply sitting around expecting the ancient Envato spirits to magically fill up their bank accounts.

Really great tips there, but some of us were doing our best already.

This attitude of “I’m doing my best” is the exact complacency I am referring to in my previous comment.

This is a competitive marketplace.

If a person’s best isn’t hacking it, they need to focus on being better.

Producing better items that are better than the competition.

That is how you reach or stay on top, become a market leader, beat the competition.

Not simply sitting there and complaining that sales are going down the pan.
