The best way to remember it, is to sing this “Seven! Five, Five! The number of CHMOD !!!” to the tune of “The number of the beast”. Works every time!

Now ryan, can I ask you something? In the account dataset there are two variables: total_earnings and balance. I expected total_earnings to represent total amount of money ever earned on that account, while balance would be current amount of money present on the account. But in reality those two variables seem to return always the same value, we withdrew money from our account and both of the variables now show $0.00, while I expected total_earnings to be the amount before withdrawal.
Hello! The total_earnings is the balance of the earnings in the account at the time of the request. It’s not the ‘total for all time’, it’s the current total withdrawalable earnings.
If they have requested a ‘max amount withdrawal’ it’ll grow up until the cut off time, then it’ll be zero and put in a withdrawal request for the full amount. If they have put a fixed request in at any given time it’ll immediately deduct it from the earnings_total.
So basically, you can think of it as ‘how much money can you withdrawal right now?’, almost. I believe this is what authors look at to figure out how theyr’e doing.
If you want a total earnings of all time, you could pull down the earnings-and-sales-by-month data set.

Hi everyone!
We’ve frozen the API at version 1 finally!
What this means is, that if you program against this version, it’ll never change in the future, so your app won’t break, and we can continue to improve the API on the edge version, and eventually ‘freeze’ a version 2
Some updates to the API since my last post include:
- Fixed a bug w/ AJ results
- All item results have their ID as requested
- We have a search data set, it’s the best. Here’s a few examples:
http://marketplace.envato.com/api/v1/search:flashden,site-templates,xml.json
http://marketplace.envato.com/api/v1/search:flashden,site-templates,business.json
http://marketplace.envato.com/api/v1/search:audiojungle,,funky.json
http://marketplace.envato.com/api/v1/search:,,gah.json
Documentation for the API , as always, is located here:
http://marketplace.envato.com/api/documentation
We’ll continue to improve and modify the edge version, and after some time we’ll freeze it to version 2.
For people new to the API , check out the intro and the follow up.
Enjoy! And feedback is welcome and encouraged!

Hey everyone!
OK, all item results include the item ID now, and I’ve fixed the error with the AJ item data sets.

{note to envato} since you’re api is still a bit lacking, I’m using some curl to parse search results from your search page. You can stop me if you don’t like it. my bot’s name is simple “jerniganibot/0.1”
G’day! No worries! We can add a search bit to the API for you so you don’t have to do any nasty HTML parsing and etc.
What else is lacking with the API that you could use? Suggestions are welcome and encouraged!
