Well, I treid to create something out of the box and was quickly rejected for the vague “does not meet our criteria” reason. I created this theme specifically for this contest and thought it would be fun to try something that really isn’t found on Themeforest. I’m pretty bummed—I spent a lot of nights working on this over the past couple of weeks.

Is this too far out?

@shakeyimages
Nice illustrations. These all yours created for this? Are there other theme styles? Sorry this didn’t make it…. Don’t give up on it. Maybe try adding a few different styles, make the nav fixed and tweak a little. This is certainly the most out of the box in terms of colorful design I have seen here. I would save this one for a specific client. I think it would work well as custom site.

So I guess out of the box means, out of the box functionality with flexible design but not too custom and not too far from the norm and must be sell-able to the masses and easily customizable and have some familiar things but used in unfamiliar ways… but not too unfamiliar and not too custom :)

Thanks for the nice comments! When I’m over my disappointment, maybe I’ll try to sell this as a custom design to someone.

I collaborated with a great illustrator, Tony Dovi for this design. If anyone is interested in hiring him for anything they work on, his email address is ajdovi@gmail.com

Thanks, Rick

I just sold my first “buy now” template! It’s nice to earn $2.80 instead of $2.00 on this bad boy (I also just reached 150 sales!).

I LOVE this new pricing option!

And BTW …I drink Miller Lite.

When you double-click a smart object it basically opens the layers that you’d previously converted to the smart object as a separate PSD file (there are vector smart objects too). Then, when you’re done making changes to the smart object, close it with saving and it will update in your master PSD file. But no, the file doesn’t live on it’s own…it’s part of the master document which is why you have to have all of your content in one PSD document.

Yeah…smart objects basically do what you’re asking for but you have to have your main content (i.e. home page, services, about, etc) all in the same PSD file.

You know what I’d love? Global Colors or Global Styles in Photoshop — similar to global colors in Illustrator where you change one color swatch or style and that color/style is changed throughout your design. You may be able to do something close in channels but I bet that would be tough.

Anyone heard of a third party solution for that?

You can try my business card template:

http://graphicriver.net/item/faux-bokeh-business-card/46011

The background is high enough resolution for a nice web background. Or contact me through my profile page and I can create something custom (with circles instead of hexagons) for you on the cheap (as long as I can resell it on graphic river) ;)

I noticed their work as soon as it appeared on the marketplace. Their attention to detail and pixel-perfect design is awesome! I’m striving to take my work to their level of quality.

Ahh..upon further review I have seen this agency’s work before.

I love how Aziz Ansari gave them a testimonial…amongst others.
