I’m a drummer and the simple answer is that the rim shot is used to lift the dynamics of a track. Whether it be rock, pop or funk, its a common technique. The sound also varies greatly with the type of snare and how it is tuned. Personally I think it sounds great but only when used appropriately. Ive recorded loud rock tracks in the studio and been asked to avoid the rimshot purely because a regular snare strike sounded better when recorded. There’s no 100% correct answer, it’s all about what sounds best for the song. If you are using sampled midi drums the rim shot can often sound a little repetitive because you hear exactly the same noise with every snare hit whereas in real life the velocity and timing changes marginally from snare to snare which gives the ‘human’ feel.
InspiringSound saidInteresting result. Strangely, I don’t see any paid results or sponsored links when searching via Incognito, so not too sure what that’s about.
Just did after seeing your post. 10th place again, making it dead last for 1st page organic results. There were 2 more paid results below it, in addition to the 3 up at the top of the page, plus 4 additional sponsored links to the right.
My results are the same as Matt’s. I tried a Yahoo search for comparison and Audiojungle is on the 5th page! Crazy. Regarding the Google problem, it’s starting to feel like we’re being swallowed by a whale. Extremely frustrating but nothing we can do I guess.
In other news, try and listen to this video from 22:20 and see how long it takes you to have a seizure. I lasted 15 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B2ARRChOJw
MusicBoxStudios saidWhat you here as in here in a virtual world. Or how long in the real world? Are you still sulking btw?
TheWhiteElephant saidWow….remind me how long you’ve been here please?
I’m definitely taking that on board. Especially if I ever need a mortgage….or food. Or help with tuning a ukulele.
This is supposed to be an Audiojungle forum full of professionals, not a YouTube comments page.
Firstly…every comment made by Matt/Alumo is spot on. Always good to hear his opinions and info. The minority that undermine his input with unhelpful comments basically undermine the whole point of this forum.
Secondly…thought I’d share my sales. I’m exclusive/elite and over the past 3/4 months my sales are down a lot (sometimes up to 70%). The past 3 weeks have been worryingly low on sales. This is my full time job which adds to the stess, big time. Hope it gets back to ‘normal’ soon.
Great news Phil. Very cool story and great to know these things can happen. All the best from Glasgow
Nice one Matt. Yer one of the good guys!
In theory it’s great but whenever I search for my own tracks using tags I lose faith. I still can’t make any sense of the “Best Match” tool. Tracks of mine that contain, for example “pop rock” in the title, description and tags are nowhere to be seen and other tracks that maybe only mention “pop rock” once are near the top.
