Is there some holiday in Australia or something? I can see that there was no item reviews for last two days, which is kinda unusual for 3docean. Normally it is getting updated daily (around 09:00-12:00am CET) and now my crucial future bestsellers are stuck in review for two days. I am losing days of exposition and sales this way – already got customers waiting for long enough.
EDIT: Just to clarify, it isn’t only about my queued items, it is about general review time for people selling on 3docean since nothing got updated for 2 days.
I had a similar problem lately with downloading a 350mb file through amazon. On 100mbit fiber I had only 45kbps download speed, had no idea what caused it but it worked full speed for everything else. Weird :/
Tomislav, you mentioned Modo was lacking that certain “something”... If you could hint a bit more towards the specifics, I’d be really thankful! Was it the “feeling of using it”, as it wasn’t as inviting as Cinema? Was it the output not being exactly as straightforward and did not correspond with your expectations, even though the live-preview should help avoid that?
Hey Calin! Yeah, I’ve meant that it was lacking that friendliness of Cinema, that feeling of creating something with ease. But then again, I haven’t really spent a lot of time with it, so my opinion might not be the right one.
Render engine in modo is great though, no need to worry about that – any option that V-Ray has, modo has as well (even real-time preview – which is CPU based but still works flawlessly and fast).
But honestly, you should give it a shot – it is probably easier to get involved with a new package when you are not forced to use something on a daily basis (Cinema in my case, at work)
Now when you said it, I might even check what 801 has to offer
Here is a render of mine that I did with modo 701 back then:
Amazing achievement – Congratulations Kriesi!
Very nice video inspiring! Good job Andy!
Yeah I agree with tdubic. C4D is going really strong lately and it is definitely dead simple to use and learn compared to 3dsmax or even Maya. New physical render is getting better and better but it is still not really able to compare with V-Ray – speed wise, in my opinion. But I can say that with the latest Studio version you definitely get everything what you need for any kind of 3d work.
I have tried modo 701 for few days and even if it really seems like a great package overall and it has a great and quick render (used it for a commercial project once, product shots of a toothpaste packaging), it never had that, you know, “something” that could keep me from going back to Cinema or even Max.
I had an opportunity to try both C4D and Max years ago in my cousin’s studio (Arch-viz) and in the end, for my personal projects, I have decided to get myself Autodesk’s subscription for 3d studio max (around 180 bucks a month, not really a bargain but it covers itself so it’s fine).
My one and only reason for this choice is that there is no V-Ray RT for Cinema yet and I am using it to preview my visualizations all the time and it helps immensely. That’s why I am on a subscription plan – As soon as Cinema gets a V-Ray update with RT – I am switching, definitely. It just has that natural feeling when I am doing my modelling in it.
Not to mention that I often find myself doing the modeling part in C4D then switching to Max for the rest
Anyway, I am definitely keeping an eye on how Cinema evolves since we are using it at work. We still haven’t upgraded to R16 but it has some insane changes compared to R15 that we are using at the moment, especially with the materials engine (new reflectance channel to replace reflection/specular, works similar to v-ray) which I am definitely dying to try.
If only Maxon would make some subscription model like Autodesk now…
In the end, you should really think about two options in my opinion – Dish out like 3k euros for C4D R16 Studio (it has it all from your list, amazing native render engine where you don’t need V-Ray at all, great animation tools, very simple workflow) or maybe take Max subscription for a month and try it out, if you like it you might even buy it for a similar price to C4D (should be around 3.8k USD or so) or continue with the subscription plan.
Subscription plan really goes well with freelancing – it is definitely the future (where Maxon will go as well, it’s just the matter of time)
Glad to have you back! It was about time!
I would recommend sticking with Cinema if you are already fond of it. It’s tight integration with Adobe opens up quite some opportunities.
If you are more into arch-viz, getting 3dsmax subscription from Autodesk might be a good choice also
I hear ya… Will have to ask around to see when/if anything is planned for the near future, but I do agree that tying this category launch together with a nice competition would benefit all authors on 3DO
Now this is what I call a good idea Need some bounties for 3docean, now!!
At first, when I have opened my Earnings page, I thought that you are reducing the author fees and I was like “OMG really? I have only 35% fee on item price??? This is so awesome! And even better, Elites are having only 12.5% fee? Seriously Envato, this is amazing!”
Then I have read about it and figured out that nothing has changed – apart from some receipt breakdown
Good job working on the marketplace though
