I’m a designer and developer at the same time. I can design great UI and I can build robust applications. I submitted a lot of PSDs here and plugins on CC, I was able to contribute on few open source projects as well. I prefer not to mention those items because as it can be flagged as self promotion.

For those who says designing is harder than coding, you must have not scratch the real coding adventure or maybe you are a PHP kiddo.

Both design and coding have their own places though.

You are wasting your time and money on a solution that will make everything worse and you are happy about that. Lose the ratings, work on some proper support tools and sell yearly license/support packages, like it should be done.

Why would you lose the ratings? A crap item of an author is a crap and deserves to have a less than 4 star ratings, unless the author wants to hide his crap to the eyes of the public. Looking at the bigger picture, ratings still serves its purpose.

Excluding support tools, this could be done in a week, month tops. After that everything would be much simpler for both parties(authors/buyers).

Like you know what you are talking about. Maybe a prototype could take a week (I know some prototypes that could even take a month(s) to implement). This marketplace has millions of users not hundreds of thousands. You should take great considerations on scalability, speed, cost, and efficiency. Not to mentions the business models and terms that comes along with the new features and this is just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t even know how did you came up with weeks. You made it sound like it’s very easy.

Anyways, I got a feeling that this feature will be implemented soon and that Envato is just gathering data with regards to pricing, timeline, and other things. I really hope they implement this properly and that buyers can understand the limitation of “support”.

Cheers :)

It’s a step in the right direction for Envato as Themeforest has a horrendous reputation for poorly built themes which aren’t maintained but Envato are combating this with the new requirements and guaranteeing support will help buyers feel more confident.
What if I told you, providing paid support system won’t solve crappy code?
Read what I said, it says the new requirements and support will improve confidence in the Themeforest brand, crap code will take longer to fix but they are moving in the right direction.

I don’t believe that paid support system is good for ThemeForest brand and certainly they’re not moving into the right direction. I can back my statement by counting the number of authors who disagree and prefers the old good support system. This new paid support system won’t simply scale in terms of demand+ higher expectations / cheap cost . They can’t even raise the cost of support since buyers will be turned off and look for some marketplace.

Look Envato is a platform where we sell things here (not on this account) and there are literally thousands of developers from all over the world. Each developers has their own rates. Maybe $29 (not including tax) for $58.00 item is a good amount from some countries, but for other it’s nothing.

Are you suggesting that giving the buyer more rights to demand for your time to complete your ticket support for 6 months for a small penny is a right direction? I honestly think it doesn’t make any sense. If you give support for FREE, buyers will love it and appreciate your effort for it. Unless you suck at customer service.

The majority of authors here who love building quality products and are happy to provide FREE support for buyers and not tie their OWN time to ENVATO terms with regards into this paid support system.

And by the way, crap code will be here forever unless WordPress improves their own code base.

Envato complicating a very simple thing. BoxyStudio already said it.

So if a user purchased an item 7 months ago and has a simple question and post it in the comments:

- Is it possible to do XXX

My answer will be:

- Please purchase a support token.

On the other hand, a user who purchased my item 5 years ago, will continue to get updates.

This is stupid.

You are free to say whatever you want. But saying “stupid” to something that helps you reach thousands of buyers is not cool. Sure there are room for improvements (that’s why we are discussing it).

Anyways I love Justin’s (BoxyStudio) recommendation so +1 to Justin’s comment.

Thanks Brent! I do agree with most of your statements. However, this kind of things will soon cultivate undesirable culture. I can see it happening soon enough.

I’ve read this thread entirely. I didn’t want to post anything, but it’s definitely clear what happened.

I’ll just leave this here: http://jamigibbs.com/premium-themes-are-dead-as-we-know-it/

That sums up my thoughts.

I am waiting for other big players to bulk purchase their own items too! Sounds very exciting.. :D

X Theme got Bulk sales again :-D reached 1000+ sales in 2 days.

Seriously, this one hurts the community of authors… Man, this is getting ridiculous… a bulk sale per week? Holy CAMOLY.. I don’t know what to say XD

This marketplace is already flooded with multiple themes package into one, hundred of plugins being bundled. This is hurting wordpress.org community already and I don’t know how it will affect the morale of authors here on Envato.

But congrats on “Weekly Deals”.

Keep it up!

:)

This results are clearly “uninspiring” and I would not be surprise anymore if I see power elites or even elites to “make a deal with a company” in-order to have a bulk sales and climb to the top. Just saying… :)
