Here are some thoughts that I think should help. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss them further.

1. This isn’t about you or somebody being a bad designer, it is about coming out with something completely unexpected that serves no purpose at all. You’re wasting so much time and effort changing elements of the site simply to follow a trend-bandwagon. The fact that other popular sites do it doesn’t mean that you should – or at least not in a 1:1 fashion. If you want to mimic other popular sites’ styles, than take sites such as Behance or Dribbble, etc. for example.

2. Focus on these marketplaces and their content. If the popular sites moving this brightness-trend are mainly text-based, then they are out of the picture and should not be used as visual idols.

3. (despite point no.1) Designing 101: you never use a full-blown color for a main spatial element. That’s a punch in the face, brother.

4. Do it softly. You often get carried away by your euphoric office-bubble and forget how your users may react. Instead of going from 0 to a 100, take it easy and start off with a few things, then a few more, and see where people react negatively. You should take your phased roll-outs as examples: as far as I know, they haven’t triggered a wave of hate such as your sudden roll-outs.

5. And don’t fire anybody, just listen. Listen carefully.

Youtube: still a lot of light-grey in background and a looooots of video thumbnails which make very colorful content to fill up 75% of the space…

While I agree that the intentions were justified, the way it is implemented is really sub-standard. Eyes hurt. A lot of elements are destroyed, too many design inconsistencies… Sorry, but the fact is that it was/is a case of poor, poor implementation.

btw, @damir: please don’t take this (and other) critics personally. Even when you read harsh posts like the ones you mentioned, you have to realize that many people here (including) me put a lot of energy and love into this place, especially in the community. So when something is not done right, we also tend to take it personally, as we don’t want to see this place broken or “destroyed” (sorry for the harsh word,I lack other word atm…)

Please don’t take it personally, but instead sit down with your team and make this place look good… better! great! amazing! superb! And also, if your job is not threatened by it, please do consult other fellow designers from the community, as many are willing to help because they LOVE this place ;)

Visit facebook and check out their colors. Not 100% white, not eye-straining, yet still pretty much light and focused on content.

Hi! Very useful application
Just a feature request
It would be great if in the statement tab, clicking on an item would open the web browser with that item’s page.
I have items in different Envato marketplaces with similar names. I.e. a photo of a projector in Photodune or GraphicRiver, a video with the same projector in VideoHive and a sfx in AudioJungle. This could be solved by adding the individual marketplace icon but a link to the item page would be also useful if the author want to check something else. Thanks!

I agree with this. I also think it would be useful. As a matter of a fact, I believe I’ve also requested this a while ago. Glad I’m not the only one who needs this functionality :)

On the question of the business model, I don’t have any more information yet, but I know Collis and many others on the team are working hard to get back to the community asap. As Trav said a couple of pages back, though, this thread is about country info and VAT number collection and in the interest of trying to help people with questions about this specifically, please keep it on topic.

With all due respect, I believe that all the raised questions here – especially the ones about the business model, ie who the seller is – are in direct link with “country info and VAT number” topic, and are not off topic at all.

The thing is, people lost trust in you (Envato). And call me paranoid, but I don’t feel like entering any more information before I know where we all stand. I don’t want any more bad surprises in (near) future.

I hope this personal opinion of mine helps you realize how all those questions were/are not offtopic.

What a huge disappointment in Envato… I had so much good words for this network of sites, I personally “pushed” a few creative friends to join, and now this all mess…

Are you planning to publish the results of the survey, or at least your plans after the survey is completed? I think we’d all like to know what to expect in the (hopefully near) future :)

Hi @urbazon. The results of the survey along with other feedback (from authors and from forums) is all feeding into a master plan to address the major issues with the upload process for Videohive media items.

We’ll certainly be communicating some changes and updates in early 2015, and this will include information about our 2015 roadmap. We have been working behind the scenes to improve much of the architecture that supports uploads of media items. While not showing any visible changes right now, it is all in preparation for some exciting changes to the Videohive media upload process in early/mid 2015.

As mentioned in the survey, as we start to fix issues and build out the new processes, we’ll be circling back with authors and inviting those who provided their author names in the survey to be involved in the early phases of the project.

I’m sorry that I can’t be more specific on dates and firm plans right now – but we’ll certainly be giving more detail in the New Year (January)!
