When I read the title, I instantly thought it’s a bad idea… However I thought about it and it actually might be quite interesting thing.
Enabled, I’m sure it would be doable in terms of development, problem is what do you do with people that follow XX+ authors? How many emails they get? You also can’t send them off automatically, based only on the fact that they are following an author. It has to be an opt-in system. Your current followers would have to check a box (default state unchecked) saying they want your email prior to receiving any newsletter, otherwise it’s spam. And it’s not spam in your name, it’s spam and blacklist on Envato’s servers which would affect all, Envato and authors.
And considering the number of notices users will keep receiving, at what point do you think these newsletters will lose their benefits and become annoyances and will be either marked as spam or directly deleted?
Sounds like a nice idea in theory but not sure how it will affect the users’ experience in reality.Cheers!
It is all easy to arrange: make it opt-in (or opt-out) via the settings, and make it something like weekly newsletter with a “digest” of everything released in that week by authors you follow. And if there are too many items per author (for example if following a bulk-uploader from PhotoDune, AudioJungle, VideoHive, etc…) then maybe limit the display to 3 or 5 newest or best-selling items…
This is probably dumb question, but I’m new here… How do I export video from Premiere pro as a quicktime mov file? If I chose quicktime in the settings, there’s no 1080p option, just 1080i and lower. I tried setting the resolution manually, but I get black stripes, eve though I set the aspect ratio to 16:9. I could rename mp4 extension to mov, but I guess this is not a good solution.
No, changing the extension of the file would definitely be a good solution. Actually, it won’t be a solution at all because it still remains to be mp4.
Regarding your export, I can’t tell you any specifics (especially because I don’t know the exact version of your software) but what I know is that you should have QuickTime installed on your computer in order to export to it. Although, you mention that you have QuickTime option, so I guess you do have it installed.
I can also suggest you to check detailed settings for your export, because choosing QuickTime is only half-way of choosing the right resulting file; you also have to choose codec (Photo-JPEG, h.264, or whatever you want). So maybe some codecs offer options that you need and some don’t?

The current method used by Envato, is forcing authors to declare sales at full, and that is not right, because what goes to the balance is not what is on the invoice. This method is overestimating sales. The invoice must reflect the sale. The invoice total must be (Sale – Author Fee).
@Collis: please tell me, are you deliberately ignoring what your authors are telling you, or do you really not understand the consequences of your actions?
Firstly, many (I’d say majority) of countries do not recognize your model as a valid one, simply because author’s/company’s bank account NEVER receives that money you claim they do. It is all virtual on Envato’s system. And what matters is actual money flow. Nobody in their right minds are going to report an income of 80% of the price, and then deduct the percentage for your “author fee”, as that scenario never happened on the real bank account.
Secondly – this I can speak for my country only, but I’m sure that we’re not the only ones with this problem – it is completely illegal to have financial transaction with a buyer from the same country in any other currency than our country’s… And your system operates in USD…
You are forcing your authors to break (multiple) laws and risk a lot only because you decided to go with some fiction story.
If nothing else, please stop telling us that this chaotic situation you created (and are sticking to it) is better for us, authors. It is not. And I’ll repeat – it’s NOT. Maybe it’s only better for Envato (in short term, anyway…)

Buyer fee makes me laugh… who in the *«|]| pays a fee to buy something.
When Envato announced these fees for the first time, a couple of months ago, they justified it by changing their focus from authors to buyers, to make buyers more welcome, or stuff like that I can’t find the link now on my mobile phone, but I’m sure it’s there on the Envato blog…
Any chance you could add another feature to your list?
Is it possible to merge statement lines of actual sale of an item and author’s fee for that sale, into a single line in app’s statement? There is “order ID” which is common for both lines in the statemen, so if that is (or if it becomes) available in API, I guess it could be possible?
What Envato is doing recently is dramatically annoying…

but the real problem arose a few months ago when Envato decided to change their way of conducting business, so instead of paying us (up to) 70% of commission, and keeping (up to) 30% of the sale, they are now paying us 80% of the price, but we have to pay them back “author’s fee”
I just have to say – I simply HATE the new statement and the double line for each sale… Too much pointless information – just show me what I’ve earned, for God’s sake!
Btw, Envato’s gamification system worked since the beginning: authors are/were thrilled to get new badges, ant on each corner there were subtle but strong motivators to work harder and harder, like information about value till the next commission level, or the statement itself, full of items sold… Now there’s no information about reaching the next level, badges became pointless and childlike and statement is full of negative values and complications… Envato’s slowly but steadily destroying a system which worked so great…
So late last year we went back, and put everything back on the table to see if there was a way to change to a reseller. It was a tough decision and the product of many sleepless nights, but in the end we decided we needed to stay with our current model.I guess it’s a colossal misunderstanding. Because I doubt you’d find a single author here who for years didn’t believe Envato was selling our items on our behalf, paying us a commission for our total sales each month.
Whether it is a recent shift and lying from Envato, or genuine “misunderstanding” and “confusion” from the beginning, all authors operated on the “commission” model so far because of what was stated in a legal document (TOS) that Envato produced and provided for us to agree with. So Envato is liable for the misunderstanding… Isn’t there something illegal and prone to lawsuits in there?
Well, I guess it wouldn’t kill to start accepting some common foreign words. “Touche”, “Hola”, “Nein”, “Konnichiwa”, I’m guessing there’s a decent amount of customers who would need these kind of files and they wouldn’t require a proficient polyglot in the review team.
Exactly my opinion. Nobody needs something “exotic”, but some common words/phrases in the most common languages would be nice to have, right?
