Our music isn’t much better either. Stupid MC Stojan, Gazda Paja i kompanija. And the Grand crap, daaamn.
I’m not familiar with any of those. But yeah our theatres are empty and turbo-folk parties are full. Like our punk band ‘direktori’ would say – “Majmuni, magarci i kreteni
bogati a nepismeni
takvi su ti sad na ceni”..
Back to the topic.
Much of the credit for popularizing the song lies with the media. And as soon as they write about the event or show the American media, so it’s popularity increases hundreds of times since then duplicated news all countries In early August, the U.S. media paid attention to the composition. August 4 newspaper The Los Angeles Times wrote that «Gangnam Style» ... – The results are known. YouTube popularity as a thermometer
Worst thing is that now, companies which produce tshirts/bottles/cups and so on, are starting to include all this shit into their prints, giving even more popularity. (see BustedTees)
I don’t see the point in complaining about the people’s bad taste in music. Also, complaining about today’s music is completely unjustified. There are so many great contemporary artists. Just because the media doesn’t promote them, doesn’t mean they are not there. I can name anytime at least 30-40 great artists who sing rock, jazz, soul, blues, pop, trip hop, new wave etc. Even some of the electronic music sounds pretty good. There are some trance songs with incredibly beautiful vocals.
I don’t think that crappy songs and artists have so much succes because media helps them, I think media promotes them because that’s what people want. People are not getting dumber, it’s just an illusion because they are easier to spot in this era of information. Their increasing number is just a consequence of population growth, their percent remains pretty much constant.
