1 Custom Post Type + Various Custom Fields - Too Complex?

Hi guys

Need to check if this a solid way to go. I want to create a “shop” for a new project but I really want to develop this from scratch instead of relying on a theme or WPplugin – hope it makes sense.

I’ll sell tshirts in large volumes, and I want to be able to code the options bellow for my new custom post type “products”.

1 – New custom post type: PRODUCTS

2 – New custom fields in Products:

Name Reference Description Price Colors Sizes Special prices (3 text boxes for “more then 200 tshirts = 10$each – more then 500 tshirts = 8$ each” etc etc)

3 – Ability to add at least 5 pictures (thumbnails) for each PRODUCT .

Is this a good plan? Can I do this following some tutorials or paying a solid coder in here? Or is this a nightmare and it’s better to use a plugin and wait for a update that breaks my store?

Any tips? Appreciated.

yes its possible, no it doesn’t make sense… Im sure your probably an amazing developer but in terms of security etc Id stick with a known plugin when dealing with potential customers finical information

I am NOT an amazing developer – far from it – and this is not to get info from customers, they just click to ask for a Quote (will use contact form for this).

Any other ideas?

then yes its very easy to do with custom post types

I reckon custom post types and fields will be somewhat not a hard task (at least for those in the know), but what about this?

3 – Ability to UPLOAD at least 5 pictures (thumbnails) for each PRODUCT and have them shown with some sort of Java – so when a visitor mouses over them they show up in big size?

I have seen this ^^ in some e-commerce themes (it’s a option by some plugin), not so sure if I can have this one done.

One final request, if anyone knows of a portfolio theme that uses some of these features, maybe I can add up what I need into it and save a lot of time – maybe?
