Yes, I know that my question has a BIIIGG “it all depends” but, I just want to know “how much does it depends!!”

Are you guys achieving it? Do you have to be a super super magic designer to get to those numbers or my idea of leaving my job and getting my 100 (at about $30) sales a month on TF is not that bizarre after all?

Thanks! Paul

Well depending on your work you can sell way more than that

Here’s a milestone achieved by a designer named kriesi:

Most sales in a month

Thanks for the reply amiridon, the link doesn’t seem to be working :( although I saw his work and those 1400 sales of twicet, amazing!

My “concern” is how long is the “long tail”. But yes, I must admit that my question has a BIG “it all depends” on it.

...but, if someone has stories to tell I am more that happy to read them :)

It depends on a LOT of thing.

  • The quality of your stuff
  • Exposure from all kind … Free file of the month , Author of the week , Weekly featured item , Popular file of the week , Popular author of the month
  • Number of client that follow you , that already bought your stuff and liked it
  • Etc etc ..

I really started to work full time at themeforest August 1st 2009 … Here are my sales number for my html theme :

August 2009 58 Sales $289.60

September 2009 89 Sales $448.37

October 2009 203 Sales $1,080.64

November 2009 140 Sales $733.27 (2 weeks only and no new theme added this month)

It always go up because of the reason I gave you … exposure .. quality of theme that increase with time .. satisfied customers etc etc ..

Those are HTML theme but I guess its the same pattern with WP theme.

Also , the % increase with your sales .. so that increase the amount of cash you do every month .. I have 43% now ..

If you have what it take and can produce some theme that would sell 30-40+ sales in their first week .. then I would say go for it , it’s the best job I’ve ever done !

Hope that help !

It’s great to read great authors experiences like this one. Reading this encourages to continue improving and trying to become a good template maker.

Referring to the 100 sales a month, I would say it’s not imposible. But, as DD said, I think you need some exposure and previous clients to achieve that goal. Of course, the theme needs to be a quality one.

Thanks a lot DD for sharing that info! I guess that the best thing to do then is just to give it a try (although I am not quitting my job right now, I see a big opportunity here)

Regarding exposure I was wondering if anyone does use any other “exposure method” like promoting your themes on another sources and redirecting clients to TF.

Does anyone even use adverting methods like adsense or any kind of paid advertising?

Thanks again! P

Only advertising I do is from DeviantArt , wich can be good if you look there : http://ddwebstudios.deviantart.com/art/AD-HTML-CSS-141515777

1,700+ views in 2 weeks .. its pretty cool .. plus it drive some referals traffic ..

When people love your work , they put you in their fav and then other people see that etc etc ..

Also twitter but its pretty slow .. I barely have 30+ hits on link I post for my new theme etc ..
