I’d love to see some statistics to settle this discussion once and for all. We’re all just stabbing in the dark here at the moment :P

Don’t hold your breath for any kind of information to be released. However, KingDog shared this revelation yesterday: “Just to add a little balance, the Marketplaces continue to grow as do the sales”.

I think this whole bundle thing isn’t good for the marketplace. It decreases the overall value of all marketplace files. Just my opinion.

Trying a bundle for 14 days also a trial in the dark. I remember there were 4 day bundles that gave a fair profit to the participating authors as well as Envato saying it results good traffic gain. Later the efficiency of bundles might be dropped? (saturated?) and then now we have a 14 days bundle and still not sure if this is sufficient or we will be heading to “30 days bundle – each month” trend. We are so close to that 365 days bundle approach – as these days every bundle becomes more bigger and longer than past ones.

This doesn’t help. Please come out of self portfolio observations and look more. I really started believe the new item’s gradual sales drop may not be necessarily due to expanding library size but the bundle life time. (bundles can be downloaded any time after years too)

Ofcource, bundles bring certain positive impacts but my only worry is, doesn’t none of Envato staff feel this section can’t be continuously expanded without hidden losses? Is that work with simple logic like multiplying 7 * 2 = 14?

If there were trails made for 7 days (4 days with banner, 3 days without) it would be easy to believe there were sincere trials going on with some care and attention. 14 days are just too lavish/gamble.

A script could easily be created to count the number of item sales each week. This could be run on new items or items from a particular category.

This way some statistics could be recorded from now on, and compared to at later dates.

How you would determine if sales are going up/down is very difficult, there are so many different types and quality of items released that (in my opinion) it would be near impossible to work out.

(eg: if there were 100 items released this week and those items made 1000 sales, if next week there were 100 items released and those items only made 800 sales, would you say sales are going up? or sales are going down? it would depend on item type/quality/category popularity/author popularity/item price )

If someone here has a better understanding on creating solid sales statistics please feel free to offer up some suggestions. That is beyond me.

I put the same doubt. So at some point everyone including Envato staff (even with data in hand) has no way to see/measure the state of new items.

One thing is sure, part of the lifeguard sales of new items are based on impulse purchases. It would be unbelievable to say that a 14 day bundle (having 50 items) never diverts such buyers from looking the new items page. With a marketplace system that is less efficient in search filter and solely runs with new item page + weekly top sellers, it is too much to expand the bundle time instead of focusing the search capabilities. Of cource if there is a proper search filter available, we can safely ignore the impacts of bundle but what is going on as of now?

Someone please kill this bundle now lol! It probably stole half my week’s earnings. On one hand you are offering a single track for $17, on the other hand you are selling a whole bundle of goods for only $20. This is unacceptable!

I can understand the birthday bundle as a compliment to the loyal customers but what is this corporate bundle? It’s bad business for the authors having an item in the bundle as well. Now 10.000 potential buyers won’t buy their items because they already got it for $0.05 each?

If this is good business, let’s all of us offer our whole portfolio for $20, take the money and go away lol!

Could not disagree more. I’ve made a ton of money in the bundle (made more in first 4 days than in 8 months of being here) and my bundle track has been in the Top Sellers because of all the bundle hype and it is looking to be in the Top Sellers again this week with 12 sales so far.

Author can decide they want to join the bundle or not. A $45 WP theme may have earned around $8000 by now, ~ 300 – 400 sales, in less than 10 days . And don’t forget that you don’t have to provide any supports for that amount of sales, which is quite a huge works. I never deny the profit that a bundle makes for any author included. What we are talking here is just how it would affect another author which is not included (most of us).
