Hi All

Just wondering what everyone’s opinion is of the preview videos on VideoHive. For me, the preview videos always buffer poorly. no matter whether I use firefox, safari or chrome the preview videos never play in full or smoothly on first run. I have to pause them and wait quite some time for them to buffer. I don’t have any problems with videos on other sites like vimeo or YouTube. (I’m running a Mac Pro quad core with 16gb ram)

Are other people have these playback issues or not? Would VH think of switching to a different video player or video file type? Adding to this, FLV videos don’t play on the iPad (and without getting into a adobe/apple flame war) – should VH look at moving to html5 video? Vimeo does it best IMHO .

Looking forward to hearing people’s views. My question is purely in the interest of making VH better for all.

Cheers ~J

It would be great if envato change the preview file type to maybe mp4 or avi. The quality of the flv format really sucks and a lot of authors have to upload a HD preview to an other Video hoster, like vimeo or yt.

Come on, those few mega bytes? Anyway, I think it is also better for the buyers to see a Hd preview. I dont think that they are searching for a HD version im the description and the first impression is very important.

Is mp4 smaller? But where is the problem, if envato allows the user to choose one of those formats?

the problem is with streaming. Even with these small file sizes here on VH, it still plays way slow.

Well they are all about video so they spend a fortune in super fast hosting.. :) Even a few megabytes increase in file size will cost a lot to Envato. I guess that they are hosting the videos in Amazon cloud and it sure is expensive!

Edit: Sorry I was wrong, they seem to be hosting the files in their own server, but it’s not cheap either
