Hey guys, wanted to share with you some parts of a discussion which I had yesterday with a guy who owns an advertising company in Germany and buys lots of stuff from AJ.

So I was at this gig, playing after the premiere of a theater play. The guy approached me, bla bla bla. Told him I sometimes write music for AJ. And he told me he uses a lot the music found here. He was amazed that he gets more then he would imagine (quality speaking) for this price ( the old discussion). But the main things I want to point out are the following:

He and other colleagues from the industry are looking mainly for tracks with low number of sales ( very encouraging for some of us). He was pretty annoyed by the fact that it happens to hear the music he used in other ads or similar projects. His wish was that he can somehow buy a track and obtain exclusivity as well on it. Told him things work differently and he can contact straight a composer but he wanted exclusivity for certain tracks. The guy was willing to pay a waaay bigger sum for that. But now its up to the composer if he feels like his track could do more without being taken out of AJ cause of such an exclusive license. Guess this would work for lower sales composers.

Another thing he pointed out was the fact that he would like lots of variations of a track in the zip file. Like…main track, logo track, loop version, main theme played with maximum 1-2 instruments, etc. I myself recently began to do that. Really cut my pieces in different ways so it fits better to different needs.

Discussions about changes of pricing were done for so many times. But in this particular case I think its quite nice to be able to sell a track with 4-5 variations for about 20bucks. I have a track for sale, I included about 4 variations and its still 11 dollars since the main track is under 2 minutes.

Anyways, hope this was somehow helpful and encouraging ( the buying of less sales tracks from such ads companies). Waiting for your opinions

Thanks for that – very interesting reading for me. Like you I am beginning to include various versions. I like the idea of supplying a loop. +1 :)

Thanks so much for the info!

Yes, this confirms a suspicion I’ve had for a while. A very crafty editor/music supervisor can quite happily buy a few lesser sale tracks or even a lot of tracks from the same author and by the power of audio editing make it sound like he hired a composer to do the score for their project. Also I have suspected for a while that there is an appeal to 0 sale items, you know no-one else has it (if the author is exclusive) so it’s like getting an exclusive track (like I’ve said in other threads, I’ve seen those sell on other sites for 2000 Euro) for 14 dollars!

I really can imagine that at a certain point companies want a sound that no-one else has used yet… it can be a bit embarrassing if you are a prestigious company and you are presenting your product then an inferior company goes “Yo! I used the same track for my project” and then a consumer notices… I’ve seen this happen in the world of stock photography where a prestigious retirement home company used a photo of an elderly couple for their ad and then a funeral service company used the same photo, they both had ads in the same magazine and the retirement home company was VERY embarrassed (this got featured in Jay Leno)

well, if a prestigious company uses stock music/photo is not so “prestigious” according to me. sound branding and exclusive portfolio are a must to create a name in the industry and they cost money. i would be surprised if, e.g coca cola or Toyota uses stock music for they advertisements…

@Bosone It happens mate…you’d be surprised how many times. Plenty of examples here on AJ. And anyways such companies as you mentioned usually employ advertising companies for their promotion, they don’t make it themselves. And the ad companies…well…they deliver, doesn’t matter how, they just do it.

@bosone. Perhaps you have not seen some of the examples that have been posted here of some very well known national and international corporations, using tracks from many of our very own authors here on AudioJungle.

Did another track with 6 variations of the main theme. Logo, loop, etc. Considering the longest file has about 50 seconds, I guess everything will be 8 dollars

Hello. I read this thread and it made me curious. What if you make the audio-preview longer. Place all the variations in one audio-file so it get longer (say 15 min.) If I sort by price I see packs for sale for more then $14,- Their audio-previews are longer.
