Hey, I know there is another site (which I can’t remember the URL to) for showing your template for feedback. But I’d figure I ask all you guys first.

File: http://velvetinkmedia.com/Newsletter/index.html

I have a few JQuery elements including Pretty Photo I thought was cool.

This template was rejected for some minor issues such as help files and a small issue with the navigation. Which I am working on. They also rejected it because “visually” it isn’t nice enough.

Any helping words to make this a “visually” better site would be appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals.

I think you should start with alignment and padding/spacing, the site seems very crowded as it is now..

So it’s to jammed together you think? Could you please give me an example?

You definitely need to increase the space around “Join Successful Professionals! ... ”. Simply set the padding on that H1 to “50px 0” or something and it looks so much better.

Does that mean you’ve “downloaded” my file and tested it? :)

Cool. Cause 50px shoves everything down out of the sliding box. I’m working on it though.

Thanks

I think many things can improved in this theme. Just a few thoughts:

- play around with different background colors and find a better one
- improve padding and margins (within the navigation, under the page heading, in the sidebar)
- get rid of that big green arrow left of “You do nothing”, I find it very distracting (it draws focus away from the content in that section which is not good) or at least change to a less prominent shade of green
- put some time and effort in designing a nice quality logo (or get one elsewhere), this one looks cheap and unprofessional (sorry if I am too blunt).
- make effective use of contrast to clearly indicate different sections within the page (for example there is very low contrast between the white background and the sidebar salmon-like background, same thing with the border around the slider).
- overall typography can also use a boost (pick some nice type for header text, give some thought to font-size and line-height).

Just a few of my thoughts. Good luck with the template!

I don’t follow you. What navigation under the heading?
