From what I understand it does make a difference for authors. Citing from collis:

The handling fee is a change to author earnings, because previously it was split with the author in the same way that the item’s sale was. So let’s say you were a 50-50 author, and you sold a $10 item, but with a $2 handling fee – you would have received $5 + $1. That second part will no longer happen.
Assuming you are an elite author and earn 75% of every sale, you sold 1000 items a month and every fifth sale has been increased by $2 handling fee. It’s $280 additional income, or, rather was :)

I wouldn’t really care for the 280 when I made 1000 sales/month. Not to mention these are money that doesn’t belong to us (authors) at all. Not part of the item’s price and should probably/eventually cover the LOSS for envato caused by paypal fees.

I must admit I’m so fascinated to find out if whoever makes it to $25m first has the stomach to actually go to space :-D Although it was my idea, I’d be terrified ... also I don’t think Cyan would let me go anyway!! :-P

if the winner doesn’t want to go to space then I’m available.

I’m ready to represent envato with courage and strength!

why wait? we should do this now!

+1. It is Envato’s money, they deserve it. No complaints.

Haha :D If things were like that, Envato would’ve been gone for years. From what i saw Envato always encouraged good and valuable feedback but on the right tone. They do want the best for this marketplace and these are all changes for the general growth and continuous expansion, the fact we don’t agree with some changes is not that relevant, nobody’s forcing us to stay here and i for once have concerns of my own – like how do i go into space :D

That was actually the best idea ever :D I’d be terrified too but this is a one chance opportunity in life and heck, i’m in, just have to find a way hmm :P You should actually team up with the first one to achieve this and do it, it’s simply surreal.

Uh ooh.
What if a team won the power elite++ ‘space tour’ prestige ;) We are 11 in the team. LOL.

:D I think just one should be chosen simply treating it maturely like:

I don’t settle to whom belong or not. All in all your income will be lower :)

I think I join a lot of other authors here in saying, “damn, this is confusing son!”

I’m not sure who this breakdown actually helps, but to be honest my main question is, does this change my earnings in any way?

As far as I can tell it doesn’t (my items are all above $10 and below $70) but it’s so damn hard to understand exactly what this now means that I’d like a plain yes or no please @collis (the $100 example is fine, but this change is so complex it definitely seems something might be hidden in there)

Plain answer is – Yes, your total earnings would be changed. Check the example QuanticaLabs gave in the quote above your comment

I guess when an Elite author refunds, the buyer will get just 70% of the item price. The 20% is buyers fee for Envato and 10% is author’s fee for Envato – which can’t be refunded.

Am I confused or clear? :D

I think Collis already explained about the new author driven refunds, that enavto would also refund their commission to the buyer.
