What do you prefer in a Wordpress theme to display images and thumbnails?
1. Automatic image attachement. No need to add image URL or anything, just simply upload the image to the post. which is then resized automatically.
2. Input URL into a custom field which is then automatically resized.
Do you prefer your images to be resized automatically? Or would you prefer to crop it yourself?

From the feedbacks from my theme sales, most buyers prefer automatic image attachment
I have had the opposite response, most of my buyers prefer to add the link. Think I’ll just create an option to choose one or the other.
Honestly, most people who I know actually prefer the custom field method… I mean, what happens if you’re just grabbing a post attachment but the post has more than one image inserted?
There’s no guarantee that it’s going to pull the image you intended as the post image. Even if you knew that it pulled the first image, last image, or number XX image, you could forget while writing a post and completely mess it up all together.

Actually it does sort the images
I make sure that in my themes, theme gets the last image attached for the post. It does not get it randomly!
You can sort the images in the wordpress upload screen.
My themes always grab the first one at the top, so you can change it. And I can also list all the images attached as well.
I think the best solution is to have custom fields that are automatically generated and for image fields include a upload button.. but I have not idea how to do the latter
