I agree that most designs look alike. I am often quite frustrated when browsing through the endless number of themes looking for that special one matching my (clients) wishes, that I can use as a starting point. I am beginning to hate the sliders and portfolios. It seems that most templates are focused on bloggers and creatives that use big beautiful pictures on their sites. But most clients (at least mine) are small to medium sized companies, that don’t need or want big sliders and big pictures and slick jquery portfolios. They focus on information. So what i am looking for is attractive designs that offer a solid start for an information based website (that don’t fall apart in IE7 and 8, by the way). With logo spaces and menu shapes and locations in different ways, with layouts that are not basically simple rows under each other (technically that’s okay, but visually it’s so boring). And please offer multiple possibilities for the color of logo space backgrounds. Often logos cannot be placed on a white space, or in a dark space.
@argosmedia – 3 month old topicAs for this one:
Logos; Not all logo’s have the same size but all the websites are for small and same shape logos. The are Usually on the left side or right side. Sometimes in the middle. It’s like saying that cars are similar to each other because they’ve four wheels but it’s just my point of view.

There are different type of cars. Some prefer a sport model, some VAN’s, Some SUV’s and some sedan’s. They all have different purposes when you want to use a one. Yes you’re right, they all have four wheels but they’re different. The point here is, when you are on a road you don’t see just van’s, truck’s, sedan’s, SUV’s or whatever…. You see different type’s of “four wheels”. When i look at the templates, i see usually just van’s, sedan’s or whatever…i see just one type…
I’m agree with most of your statements. In fact, i try to avoid it while making files. But the fact is that if you check populars you will find that users are looking for the same boring thing again and again. And from author’s perspective, is more profitable to just repeat the layout than innovate. Not sure if it’s sad, but is the way it is, and we are here to make money (although the best thing i’ve made here are friends. )
Wow, I could not have said that any better
