Hi folks,

I’d like to have your opinion on the rating system.

I dont know exactly how the ratings are calculated, but my impression is that it simply sums the total votes and then calculate an average value. This seems strightforward but maybe doesn’t reflect the real situation.

I think the buyers’ need to have weight. Those with more purchases to have more weight. We already have a system which groups the buyers into different groups so I think it will not be that difficult implementation.

So if a buyer with more purchases voted his/her vote to have more weight.

Now if you have let say 5 5* and 1 1* the one star destroy the rating of the item. Well if the item is not good then the lower ratings will be more than one. But if it is a good item but a newbie just can not work with Flash or is learning and rated the item with 1* there is almost no way to recover it again up to 5*. Or a new customer just do not realise that we do not read their minds… and buy only one… and voted… again. After the 10-20 purchase I think the buyers are aware about how this place works and have more fair opinion.

What do you think? Thanks and do not forget to enjoy your day… ! Have a walk, have a smile on your face, maybe dance at home or work… sing a song, and turn off the computer at least for an hour.

Ummm…. each purchase represents a single buyer. Each buyer rates the product based on his experience or opinion about the usability, functionality, design, user friendliness among other things about that product. By calculating the average total rates by its rate value, it makes rating more accurate than to distribute the rates among a privilege based rating system like you’re suggesting.

I use the term, “privilege based” because you mean to use favoritism to imply that return and frequent buyers’ opinions and rate statements are more important than those who buy less. All who rate are equally important. Its not right to consider a frequent buyer in comparison to a less frequent buyer as more worthy of acknowledgement when they all count. Especially considering that each rate value is individually represented by a buyer’s experience with the product.

thanks dude.

What you wrote, sounds to me like a preacher’s speech. Well if you vote for a president… yes all we are equal.

But when it comes to business i think the logic must be different.

I think that if you are new buyer you have learning curve. The same with the sellers. It takes time.

Am I responsible that you have learning curve? Or that the buyer is someone with no skills at all?

To me is obvious. If you have bought 40+ files you can use flash. If you have 10- probably you are the vilage’ HTML guru and are trying to impress the local bar owner doing his fancy web site.

Did you sing a song today dude? :D

Aw-Shucks? You missed the Jordan years. Man I would have loved to live in Chicago then. I’ve been once and it’s a nice city.

Aw-Shucks – of course. I always wanted to say to somebody in the forums: I love you dude. :D but I am a bashful little boy and never had the courage to tell him, now I hope he will read this lines here. Well I am straight but this can not stop me to love him… the dude. ;-)

When I was a teenager I played basketball a lot and wanted to be like Jordan. Now I am here but he is not playing anymore… I love Chicago too. thanks dude!

What tells you that a buyer buying here for the first time is not already experienced with using Flash and XML ?

You’re implying that a first time buyer is always a noob :(

And what tells you that the person who gave you the 1* rating is not actually a big buyer?

I agree however that it is a pain to have that happens sometimes when it is not deserved, but it happens to everybody and you just need to forget about it…it happens rarely.
