I have a request for a script that I would pay good money for. If you go to a page of informationarchitects.jp , like this one:

And you copy a piece of the text, it will auto insert a link into the copy and link to that particular piece, like so:

amidoinitrite? I can’t get it to work in Google Chrome, i’ll try Firefox.. No dice. I have a script that uses the same concept as this in my portfolio – let me know if that’s sort of what this script does, as I can not see the functionality in Windows on FF nor Chrome.

paste it somewhere else, and you will see it adds a link at the bottom of the copied text.

it also records that someone copied that text behind the scenes, and if a lot of people copy the same text / image etc.. you can tell what parts of the website are popular.

Ok, so after some research (I’ve started to work on this dtbaker, but I’m not sure if it’ll be finished before you get to it! ) I found that changing copied text is A LOT harder than it used to be. Internet Explorer does a pretty good job of making their method security-free, but as far as other major browsers go, it’s a tough battle. It appears as though most common methods or minor “hacks” that allow the change of selected text are not cross browser. I read that you can buy a certificate from Firefox or something that will allow you to have such privileges (I’m thinking that is what the site that dtbaker posted has.) I’ll continue searching though.
