Hello,

Does anybody advertise their wordpress plugins over on: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/newsletter/ ?

eg: providing a “lite” edition for free on there, linking to the “commercial” edition over here?

or (even better) is it possible to publish commercial plugins within the wordpress.org plugin database?

I don’t think it’s possible since wordpress is based on the open source concept. But they should make it possible since not many are willing to make a quality plugin for free

Also it would be cool because of the awesome update functionality wordpress has that cannot be applied to cc items

I have made “lite” versions of some of my plugins, with commercial versions available here. I’ve found that a lot of people will try the free one, and if they like it, will spend the few dollars to upgrade.

Good idea. The best way to do this is add a free version to wordpress and in the plugin add an upgrade link besides the small activate/deactivate, delete links that redirects to your item on codecanyon.

Is wordpress really the way to go. I’ve seen the success of some author’s but should I be adapting this development or is it just a fad. Calling all seasoned developers! Please let me know!

@jigowatt true!

You can make a living with all categories here. Just think out of the box and don’t try to copy the top selling items. Make something new that works, and people will like and follow you. This will automatic lead to sales.

Nevertheless, it’s always a good idea to start learing wordpress development.

Great, thanks for the insight!

PS. fad wasn’t the best choice of wording, lol.
