I need to set up a site so that people can login, and view technical drawings. Each client would have their own page that contains just their drawings. So I’d want them to only be able to view just that page when they login.

I know a single page can be password protected, but a I need a single login area, I don’t want to be sending page links out. I need them to be able to login, and be taken to their page.

Is there a theme anyone can suggest that might have this functionality, or suggestions on how to achieve it with plug-ins?

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like you’d need a freelancer, doesn’t sound the hardest of tasks, I doubt there would be a plugin to match this

These could be done with custom made “CMS” for your needs. If you have some knowledge on PHP /MYSQL techniques these can easily be done.

A simple idea is to create tables you need for user info, tech drawings and user page ( which can also be included in user info )

And when the user logins to your site he would be “redirected” to their page. If he tries to access another page with a different user_id assigned to it he would be taken back to his page or get a message that he can only access his page.

I hope that I have helped you with this suggestion.

can this not be done with wp? the website can be disabled for logged out users, and pages can have custom permissions? im not sure if it would be possible from inside wp, but there should be a plugin to manage extensive user permissions. If not maybe some developer should look into it, could be a moneymaker.

edit. Im sure you can achieve this in joomla, Iv not used it in a while, but I worked on it to build a small network a little while back, and had different pages for different users. I dont remember exactly what plugins I used but you should deffinitely look into it, and if not then you can do this with phpbb.

I’m assuming you’re referring to WordPress since you said “plugins” and “themes”.

My Members plugin (free) will give you a place to start in that regard: http://themehybrid.com/plugins/members

It doesn’t offer the exact functionality you’re after, but you could achieve it with roles rather than users. But, you’d probably still need a freelancer to customize some things for you if you don’t know your way around WordPress code.

Your question isn’t detailed enough for us to offer much more advice though.

I was just going to suggest Justin’s (greenshady) plugin. Also, what about this?

Thanks for the tips guys. Yes, I should have posted that Wordpress was the plan. I am not a Wordpress novice, but I just couldn’t think of the best approach to this having never setup anything similar.

Thanks for the links, some interesting stuff in digitalimpact’s link I will have to sort through.

Sorry I just noticed Greenshady’s comment about my question not being detailed enough. Could you let me know what other info I can post? If I do take this to a freelancer (something I’d have to look into as I haven’t done it before), I would like to be able to explain what I need properly. I will fully admit I may not know the correct terms though.

What I need:

- Front page of the site has a a login, or a sidebar/footer etc with a login.

- A Client logs in, and are taken to a protected page that has their technical drawings (HVAC related) on it.

- They can access the rest of the public site, but the other client’s drawings could need to be protected.

- There would likely be about 20 of these protected client pages

Does that explain things a little better? Thanks a lot.
