Is it violation on the envato rules if i share my freelance marketplace profile links at bottom of my item description. I just want to offer my service to my item viewer. Thanks in advance.

Even if they’d allow you, I wouldn’t suggest you to do that, instead you can offer the website link that goes directly to your portfolio, and if he might be interested in other services then you can list all of your services there with their respective links to these marketplaces. If you’d do that, chances to annoy you customer are higher.

Hi ahkmunna, great question! Authors are permitted to link to their own Website from their profile page but not from item descriptions, sorry! We actually have a great article coming up we’re about to publish that will go into a lot more detail about these kind of areas which will hopefully give a lot more clarity. Hope this helps for now however!

If that is the case, than most descriptions on CodeCanyon and ThemeForest is breaking the rules. Most items link from description to website documentation, support forum and more. All information I found on this is very lacking, and you should make some rules for that, and leave authors some time to make changes if you really want to limit what they link to from descriptions.

Linking to own website to provide resources and documentation, links to support should be allowed at the very least. Even all other links (except to competing websites) should be allowed, I see no harm in linking to Twitter profile for latest news or Facebook.

hmm, it seems that Envato is doing everything possible to drive authors away from the marketplaces. I have external links to third party websites in all of my products. Disable my entire account if this is where we’re heading …

I like worms, they don’t belong in a can :P

And I think/hope Scott was not referring to links on the product page, that are leading to the author’s support forum, YouTube video demos or any credits for the resources used.

Best wait for that article.

Hi all, like I said, we’re wanting to give much more clarity to this because it’s such a big conversation with so many variables and to be fair to you all, it’s never been properly clarified before. We want to help improve that. As soon as we get the article published let’s continue this conversation but until then, there’s nothing to worry about, business as usual.
