Just procuce some stunning tracks for me. I’ll pay $ 10,- each + 10% of the sales. This could easily make the missing £ 200,- when you work fast enough. What do you think? :D

lol.

I know you were only joking, but you’d be surprised at how often this happens, especially here in LA. There is a lot of ‘ghost-writing’ going on for some fairly big names. I’ll say no more….

I heared about it and think it’s not a secret any more. Zimmer has a real musical factory e.g. where musicians are composing for him as well. But hey, is there any business different? People are working for the boss and bring their ideas and creativity in.

BTW, Sam I didn’t wanted to suggest I’m your boss. ;-) Not yet! :D

As Gareth says, I’m joking.

hey ! From my experience, don’t wait ! do it now, the sooner you begin, the sooner you will suceed to live from your music… as simple as that.. it doesn’t mean it will be easy.. Gareth is right saying business abilities and contacts make 80% of the work… I would say if you don’t have children yet go on, you’ll always manage to do some litlle work if it’s needed.. may be you play in some bands also or you just compose at home ?

One thing is really difficult also is knowing what you have to do each day (well at least it’s hard for me! even after 10 years..) : to organize yourself and make some planification, it’s so easy to get lazy and to say to yourself you can do that later when you have no one who controls you… You can start 10 things and finish nothing… you have to be very very VERY strict with yourself…

And by the way what are your other possibilities if you don’t do that ?

It’s not only a question about income. It’s also a question about the value of the rent. :D

Back to topic: StudioLeBus is right. That’s of course one of the main questions. Are you able to be disciplined, to finish jobs even if they suck, to keep on working even if you’re in a hole and unmotivated, and all these little things from the inner temptation. For some people it’s not a question for others it can be the biggest problem.

However, you have the best conditions to figure that out now. There’s only one answer to your question: Try it!!!

Whatever you decide, all the best for you my friend.

Hey dude, thanks for the advice! :)

I just compose at home but I am itching to get in a band at the moment.

I’m terribly unorganised too, but I do my best to plan, even if it’s just writing loads of to do lists. Obviously I will make a much more sophisticated plan if I really do go for this.

My other option is to just get a part-time job along side composing. I’m sure composing and a part-time job would bring in enough money to life definitely each month :)
