I am fairly new here, but thought your post and letter were interesting.

Have you ever considered focusing your efforts towards awareness to those businesses who are being denied access to potential consumers? Your petition in the hands of those big time advertisers who use flash on their websites?

For examle:

www.sony.com www.honda.com www.cocacola.com www.fandango.com

hmmmm…and I think www.whitehouse.gov is an interesting prospect?

This is an interesting idea. I’m going to look into it.

Thanks everyone for the support so far!!

Another sign here!

But i want to mention one important thing. These days i read and read about this adobe-apple issue. Looks like not having flash in Iphone or Ipad is only a corporate decission. The fact is that, at least, iphone processor, can go with flash plugin system requeriments. Nor the processor or battery. Ok, someone will hack the iphone and run flash in it. The real thing is that almost 80% of the flash sites will be so slow that it will be impossible to see them properly.

I tried Iphone with several deep javascripts, requering more or less the same system resources than a “normal” flash site. It didn’t work out. Slow processor with not enough ram. That’s the reality, not only a management decission.

Thanks, I agree with this. I struggled with whether or not to include the iPhone in my letter. Having Flash work on a small hand held devices isn’t as important to me as having it work on a larger devices such as the iPad. There is no reason at all that Apple couldn’t have developed a tablet that had real computing power. It was just dumb, or lazy, or both.

Thanks to all again for the support!

I think none of us really know how well Flash will perform on mobile until 10.1 is released.

But we’re told that 10.1 has a few important memory management tools that should not be overlooked

  • It doesn’t automatically instantiate every object like previous versions.
  • It listens for the phone’s back-light to dim, so when it does, it shuts down processes and doesn’t eat up the battery on a phone when it’s not being used.
  • It has a built in “gauge” and will start shutting down instances if the threshold is met. So in theory it should never crash the phone’s browser. Instead, a 3D site, for example, would just not work.

And there are probably some more that I didn’t list.

Go Flash!
