Hey all,

last night I took a rare evening off and crashed out on the sofa with a nice frosty beer (or two) and watched Tekkonkinkreet. For anyone that hasn’t watched it, DO SO NOW !!! It is the most incredible, beautiful, disturbing, mind altering, phenomenal film I think I have ever seen. The beers may have helped in it’s awesomeness but there is no denying it is an inspirational work of genius.

Anyway, to my original point. It made me realise/remember just how awesome anime is and yet I haven’t watched enough. I have just purchased the full series of Samurai Champloo and Paprika on the recommendation of a friend this morning but am keen to hear more recommendations from the Envato-ers (Envatanites, Envatians… Envatosites?) so please send em in!

p.s. this is not a thread to comment on whether Tekkonkinkreet is good or not, it’s awesome and I will hear nay a bad word spoken about it :)

Anime is just so weird :) .. Spirited Away was a twisty ride. I remember after it finished I was still sitting there and thinking “What da heck did I just watch” .. I mean it’s good but in a weird kind of way.

Spirited Away is awesome! I love the Ghibli films, I might have to do a Miyazaki marathon sometime soon.

Another anime fan here :) Actually started studying the Japanese language because of it couple years back. Samurai Champloo is a good one, i will check out the one you recommended.

It’s hard to recommend anime’s imo just because there is such a wide variety of anime lovers out there, some like the adventures others the pure drama and others like the classic cheesy comedy and weird stuff mixed into it.

Anyway if you want to get your heart torn apart i would recommend as a drama geek

- Hotaru no haka ’’grave of the fireflies’’ movie

- RurĂ´ni Kenshin: Meiji kenkaku roman tan: Tsuioku hen – series

- kimi ga nozomu eien – series

- saikano – series

And so many others i’ve seen .. can make a whole thread about animes i loved lol. Big fan of asian film making. Korea’s movies and Japan’s animes in particular :)

If you can get used to korean language and learn to enjoy it in movies i recommend movies such as.

Oldboy -

The vengeance trilogy -

Bittersweet life -

Tale of two sisters -

And so many more… i find korean movies so much better then the standard hollywood stuff these days, it’s more artistic, cinematic and real to me.. i can actually relate to the characters and the stories are surprisingly original and not cheesy at all in comparison to the standard films you see in the cinema’s these days. Anyway going fashionably of topic again :)

I’m a big anime/manga lover as well, spend a lot of time relaxing or finding inspiration with them.

Apart from the classics like Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop or Death Note, i’d recommend some light comedies like Full Metal Panic Fumoffu or Golden Boy. Golden Boy is hilarious and is only 6 episodes.

Another genre i’m very fond of is sports anime, Slam Dunk and Hajime no Ippo are some of my all time favourites.

Even in anime, there’s something for anyone or any taste, weird ones, comedies, dramatic ones, hell there’s an anime about competitive bread-making and they still manage to make it very entertaining!

OMG , DeathNote FTW ! It is my favourite anime and I believe will always be. It even inspired me to make a short comic using an online game’s screenshots, called BanNote ( “Ban” is like “Death” of your account in online games for those who don’t know :D ) Anyway, If there’s an anime I can recommend always, it is DeathNote…though I have to admit it can be boring for some people.
