Anyone else tired of having your hard work ripped by unfaithful buyers? I can do a simple search for “refresh! premium landing page” and retrieve a download link from one of the first couple of results. Anyone else having this issue? What can I do about it?
Do your search for “refresh! premium landing page” and when you find it, flag it or report it. Some websites have that option.
oh Wow! I just googled my theme and there are about 20 websites within the first few pages that have links to download .rar’s of my theme. dam.. how do envato handle this? I guess im going to lodge a support ticket. But will they do anything about it?
edit. I just downloaded my theme from one of the sites. The only shred of satisfaction I have is that they don’t have the php files included. Obviously cause they can’t access that. Still its not hard to me your own send.php
Support can’t do anything as they don’t own the copyright on the files, all you can do is file a DCMA to whoever host have the files on their server… But this type of discussion typically isn’t allowed on the forums
p.s search the forums for fresh killer it’s a tool to help send DCMAs
One thing I can suggest is just look over it. Best thing to do is continue to provide outstanding support for your theme/file/etc… and don’t bother with the other guys. I’m not saying DON ’T file a DMCA , as that would be a great approach.
I would also suggest that you only reply to support requests from actual purchasers, the ones here on TF and don’t worry about the rest. As a long time purchaser here on TF, I’m always going back for more. There’s always going to be pirates, just ignore them they won’t last long anyhow!
An alternative is put in a sniffer script that lets you know what site your theme/files are installed on and you can put in like a remote kill to delete the whole site
Just an idea, but not very effective on envato as I don’t believe you can track on a per-user basis.
Another idea is to input a licensing system that would tie into both your’s and envato’s website and store the transaction ID’s somehow… for a long time I’ve wanted to do something like this just haven’t got the time.
Bottom line though, just keep providing support to your “Purchasers” and don’t worry about pirates. Though I’d still file a DMCA
