Used to live there for the past year, and might visit there soon, but only time will tell 
If so, it will be probably in September/October, Because flight tickets in July/August are just too expensive, and Comic Con is in San Diego every year (usually in mid-July) which is about 2 Hours away (assuming the Big’Ol’Mighty-L.A-Traffic-God is in your favor)
If you need tips, recommendations, or anything, feel free to ask, first suggestion would be to stay around Venice Beach / Santa Monica – Especially this time of the year, since that area is closer to the Beach the weather is easy breezy and fine. Hollywood and the areas further away are much warmer (can reach 41c – 45c) and there’s hardly any wind, although if you’re into Pool parties, Blond bikinis, and Salty Margaritas, you should hang out there at least once, Roosevelt or the W Hotel are well known for their famous Sunday fun day parties during the Summertime, if there’s some uncertainty whether to go / do / try something you can always check with Yelp.com , Most people in the US use that website to report and rate pretty much everything from Hairdressers to Garages through Parties and Restaurants.
If you’re going in August, there’s also Siggraph, try to get tickets because its a helluva party.

Unfortunately I wasn’t aware that their tickets sell out so quickly so I missed my chance to go. Maybe next year.
