Edit: I wouldn’t touch GoDaddy with a 100 ft. pole, lol.
You know, a lot of people absolutely hate them, but I’ve worked with them a lot for clients and personal matters and I really have never had a problem. I guess it comes down to what works for you :)

Very true. Depends on a lot on your needs and all that. I’ve known quite a few people too who used them and never had a problem or complaint.

Hey guys :)

I’m looking to buy a domain and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I’m after one that takes paypal.

I was going to go with godaddy but with paypal they want you to accept a “Merchant-Initiated Payment Agreement” Which i don’t agree with as i would rather renew it myself without them being able to automatically take funds.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I searched but could only find a bunch of hosting-related threads.

I don’t like the agreement with GoDaddy either that you have to use until you can pay with PayPal ($500 billing agreement), but you can actually remove this right after your purchase.

Go into PayPal – Profile – Pay List – Click on the one GoDaddy just setup – Adjust the billing amount for the month to something like $1 over what you just paid (if you paid 8, just make it 9 and you’re good). Anyway, just an option :)

Wow.. thanks for that! I’ve just done that in my paypal… Yeah.. been using Godaddy.

I personally don’t like GoDaddy because of their tedious and advertise-ridden buying process. I bought my first domain with them and it was a painful experience. I’ve used my host to register any new ones I’ve had.

this.

hahaha their site is INSANE with the advertisements… the checkout process is like “ARE U SURE U DONT WANT THIS ? AND THIS ? AND THIS AND THIS TOO !!!?”...

BUT WAIT !!....

and the “no thanks” link is like this tiny, discreet text link at the bottom of the page.

however, I still use them because it’s hella cheap and I only have to go through the pain of renewing/registering once and a while. Been using them for like 6 years without any issues (for domain registration only)

I have always used NetworkSolutions since they first went into the business. I know thay charge $34.95 a year, and the same to renew it, but no problems with them at all. At least they have no advertisements and pretty much is self explanatory. Good luck.

I dont like Godaddy (a very bad experience with them) .. Love Name.com they are the best registrars, they have helped me a couple of times and the domain prices are also very competitive.

My personal favourite is OVH .
They supply great customer support, no adverts during billing process, quick and easy.
All depends on you.

Here is a little shameless promotion for my company, Decaf Hosting. I had been a GD customer for a long time and used to send my clients to them. I eventually became a GD reseller so that I could offer my clients the same products for a slightly lower price. Any commissions I made never offset the cost to be a reseller. As I became involved in the GD reseller community, I began to learn of support issues other resellers were having. I then had a problem were scammers were randomly using reseller accounts to purchase domains with possibly stolen credit cards in order to use the domains for spamming. GD was canceling the orders but sticking me with credit card transaction fees. I eventually parted ways, found companies and products that would benefit both my business and my clients, and setup my current hosting/domains business. Currently I only accept PayPal as a payment method and don’t have any automatic renewals setup. So those looking to use PayPal to purchase domain names should give my site a look. [removed]
