I’m loading a zip file from a third party server, unzip it, do some stuff with the content and delete the zip file afterwards.

Where’s the best place to save that zip file? Is there a “temp” directory in WordPress for this purpose?

Why not simply wp_upload_dir? It’s already there for you, no need to complicate things, right? :)

ya good advice, if you want to upload sensitive data like sql database for example, store it in the publicly accessible uploads dir so that everyone can access your sql file!
